I Am Ghost Are In The Studio
The dark-rockers of Long Beach, CA, I Am Ghost, have emerged from self-imposed songwriting solitude to begin work on their sophomore album, which is slated for release this fall. The quintet recently headed east to record the follow up to 2006’s critically heralded debut, Lovers’ Requiem, with producer Paul Leavitt (Senses Fail, The Bled, Circa Survive) in Baltimore, MD. After a lineup change in 2007, I Am Ghost found solidarity by returning to their roots and rediscovering their passion for the music. “We went through a spiritual journey these past six months,” explains founder and singer Steve Juliano. “Call it a band cliché, but it doesn't really bother me to say that. I sat in my room with these songs and really just let everything out. It was a cleansing of all the bad thoughts and ideals that had stuck in my head for almost three years. The past will always haunt you, and I know this. For awhile I was a very angry pissed off guy who hated a lot of people. This new album made me think. Why was I letting other people take control of my life? This album saved my life more than once. I don't know where I would be without these songs, the new members of this band and my family. Lyrically this is the darkest album I have ever written. Musically it's the most beautiful music we have ever done. We were not afraid any more. I am not afraid anymore. We wrote this entire album with our blood, sweat and tears. I wrote this album so I could stay alive and continue living again...” In early 2008 Juliano along with co-founding members Gabriel Irahete (guitar) and Timoteo Rosales (guitar) enlisted the help of Ron Ficarro (bass) and Justin McCarthy (drums) to complete the revamped and revitalized lineup. Having already established a name for themselves around the world through their relentless D.I.Y. work ethic, enthralling music and killer live shows, I Am Ghost enters the next phase with an abundance of experience and a drive to produce their best, most genuine music yet. “The new album is just good songs,” explains Juliano. “We don't have six or seven minute songs and this crazy epic intro that you will listen to maybe once or twice then skip. We just broke it down and got to the nitty-gritty. This is definitely the darkest album lyrically speaking I have ever written. But, at the same time, the songs are poppy but with this very morbid feel to it.”

Norma Jean Releases "The Anti Mother"
Atlanta's post-hardcore outfit NORMA JEAN--along with producer Ross Robinson (Slipknot, The Cure, Deftones) and engineer Ryan Boesch--have put the finishing touches on their fourth studio album THE ANTI MOTHER, due out August 5 on Solid State Records. They are debuting songs from THE ANTI MOTHER live to fans all summer long as main stage headliners on the Vans Warped Tour. In his live review for the Los Angeles Times, August Brown noted of the new material: "Atlanta metal-core quintet Norma Jean made a convincing case for rock's potency, as the riffs from its forthcoming album, 'The Anti Mother,' lived up to singer Cory Brandan's claim that it's 'so heavy, it'll make you want to punch a dolphin in the blowhole'" (6/23/08). In addition, NORMA JEAN are also performing a handful of dates with As I Lay Dying that are weaved through June and July, including stops in Omaha, New Orleans and Birmingham. Fans can check out two songs from THE ANTI MOTHER-- "Robots 3, Humans 0" and "Birth of the Anti Mother"--now on NORMA JEAN's MySpace and href="http://www.purevolume.com/normajean" target="blank">Purevolume sites. And the band is already receiving early buzz for THE ANTI MOTHER. Scott Heisel of Alternative Press noted on Altpress.com, "And even though it's only two [NORMA JEAN] tracks, I'm sufficiently impressed. One song, 'Death Of The Anti Mother,' is slow and sludgy (a fair comparison could be Baroness or ISIS), and the other, 'Self-Employed Chemist' is very uptempo and strangely melodic, with semi-clean vocals throughout that, in a bizarre way, sound sort of like Jason Shevchuk (Kid Dynamite/None More Black). Neither are what people have come to expect from Norma Jean...and both songs are making me wonder why it took me until right now to realize this band kind of totally rules. They will definitely be on my bands-to-watch list when I'm on Warped this summer. " Featuring separate collaborations with Page Hamilton of Helmet and Chino Moreno of Deftones, THE ANTI MOTHER will equally deliver NORMA JEAN's most melodic, heaviest and furious material to date. "We've never been this excited about anything we've done," says CORY BRANDAN. "It's exactly the record we've always wanted to make. We also got to work with some of our favorite musicians as well, particularly Page on 'Opposite of Left And Wrong.' We learned so much from him and he dedicated himself to that song, and Chino Moreno on the song 'Surrender Your Sons.' That song was written in a very spontaneous way and came out so unique. Cove Reber from Saosin came in and did some vocals on the song as well; we also wrote lyrics together--Cove was such a huge part of that song. Cove also did various background vocals throughout the record." CORY adds: "Working with Ross [Robinson] on this record was the best possible scenario. It doesn't matter how much we think we know about making albums, Ross always pushes us to do something greater. We are completely animated about The Anti Mother and can't wait for people to hear it." THE ANTI MOTHER follows the band's critically lauded 2006 release Redeemer that the Omaha Reader described as "a smeared amalgam of evangelism, scorching rhythm, tangled lead guitar work and violent vocal strokes across a hard-rock canvas," with Alternative Press raving that "Redeemer's angst and fury are undeniable."

Ben Moody Starts New Label
The creative force behind the rise of rock band Evanescence, with hits “Bring Me to Life” and “The Fallen”, songwriter Ben Moody has taken his love for the music in a new direction; as head of the new, artist-centered label, FNR Records! Since his departure from Evanescence in 2003, Moody has collaborated with some of the hottest stars in the music business; the established and the up-and-comers. His songwriting and producing credits include working with Avril Lavigne on her second release Under My Skin, penning “Nobody’s Home”, “This Time” with Celine Dion, “What About Now” from Chis Daughtry, and Moody co-wrote and produced the smash hit, “Because of You” with David Hodges for Kelly Clarkson. The reason for Moody’s new direction, FNR Records, is simple, he states, “after going to such great lengths to protect the integrity of a project during the creative process, it seemed almost sinful to let the major label monster destroy it.” In order to live its credo of protecting the creative artists, FNR Records first client is a young, Montana native, Hana Pestle; an alternative rock/acoustic solo artist. Pestle’s sound carries a unique blend of influences as diverse as Radiohead, Sarah Mclachlan, and the Cranberries. Hana Pestle is now touring the Midwest, performing her songs, “These Two Hands”, “Just a Phase” and her own haunting rendition of “Hallelujah”. Moody was instantly taken in by Pestle’s voice, "It only took Hana singing one song and I was sold . . . I have never in my life been more in awe of such a breathtaking natural talent.”
David Crowder Band Releases Live CD/DVD
sixstepsrecords’ David Crowder*Band will release the REMEDY Club Tour CD/DVD to retail on Aug. 19. The band’s first ever full-length DVD features five and a half hours of content, including a behind the scenes tour documentary, song demonstrations hosted by each member of the Crowder band and chord/lyric subtitles in addition to 16 songs recorded live on last fall’s best-selling “REMEDY Club Tour.” “This tour was so amazing for us,” says David Crowder. “Many of our beliefs converged regarding music’s role in the church and the unexpected spaces our faith can function in. We believe that there is no space that is not sacred, that every second is lived in the very presence of God, and we wanted people to experience this reality, which, lead us to transporting these songs into places perhaps unexpected. The response was fantastic. To be in these historic Rock-and-Roll venues and watch the story of God come alive night after night was unbelievable. And then, to have captured that on tape, to have a document composed of these magical evenings is just ridiculous.” The fall 2007 “REMEDY Club Tour” boasted 19 sold-out dates, and its “Surely We Can Change Something” campaign collected thousands of towels and socks for local shelters, while encouraging attendees to “be the Remedy” in their local communities. Fans can now bring that experience home, enjoying a full 85-minute concert recorded at both the New York City and Atlanta tour stops. The concert will premier for one-night-only at select movie theatres nationwide in partnership with AEG Network Live. Additional details are forthcoming. “David Crowder*Band consistently delivers one of the best live shows in music,” says Leisa Byars, EMI CMG VP, Marketing & Artist Development. “The Remedy Club Tour Edition was created for the many people who love the live Crowder show experience. Partnering with AEG at a national level and radio in local markets, enables us to place this compelling show on the big screen across the country and allows the band's music to continue to impact lives and communities.” Shot with nine cameras in two cities, the DVD features 5.1 surround sound, a 15-minute exclusive tour documentary “On The Road With David Crowder Band” as well as “Learning the Songs,” a section hosted by each band member showing fans their setup and gear used in each song along with a how-to lesson on playing the songs exactly like the David Crowder*Band. Taking it even further, the DVD features the ability to display chord/lyric subtitles so that fans can test their skills and play along with the tour night. The REMEDY Club Tour CD/DVD includes the tracks, “I’m Trying to Make You Sing,” “The Glory Of It All,” “Can You Feel It?,” “Everything Glorious,” “…neverending…,” “Here is Our King,” “You Are My Joy,” “We Won’t Be Quiet,” “Foreverandever Etc..,” “A Beautiful Collision,” “Never Let Go,” “Remedy,” “I Saw the Light,” “No One Like You,” “O Praise Him,” and “Surely We Can Change.”

This Beautiful Republic's Second Album Drops Aug. 19th
Following the critical and commercial success of its 2007 debut, Even Heroes Need a Parachute, Ohio rock band This Beautiful Republic returns August 19 with Perceptions, a new ForeFront Records/EMI album that clearly showcases the act’s increasing creative and spiritual strengths. Lead singer Ben Olin explains, “The title deals with the idea that there are at least two sides to every story. Things inevitably appear different to each individual based on their experiences, predispositions, prejudices, or vantage point. When we understand this—that what we see may not be the whole truth—we arrive where grace and love prevail.” A sneak preview of Perceptions begins with the July 8 release “Learning to Fall,” a three-track digital-only single for just ninety-nine cents that also includes two previous live tracks. Perceptions is an effort that decidedly goes to the extremes of modern rock and timeless worship. It was produced by Allen Salmon (Mute Math) and comes in the storied wake of This Beautiful Republic’s first two years of touring together as a major label act. The band shared stages with headliners Sanctus Real and Family Force 5 among others and traveled overseas for shows in the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, and Sweden. “I think the overall toll that being in a band takes was underestimated by us. Until you’re doing it and seeing how it affects your friendships, relationships, your bank account, your physical health, and your mental health, you can’t really get a true grasp on it,” says Olin. “Yet at the same time, we never knew it would be so good. We’re so proud that we’re being allowed to do what we are doing right now. Perceptions is a huge step for us and a better representation of where we’re at as musicians.” This Beautiful Republic first made headlines when pioneering EMI-owned Christian rock label ForeFront Records (dc Talk, tobyMac) chose the act as its first new signing in five years. The band’s debut album, Even Heroes Need a Parachute, charted the singles “Jesus to the World” and “Casting Off” and earned glowing reviews. MusicFaith.com called TBR “my vote for New Artist of 2007” while Christianity Today compared the band to Foo Fighters and estimated it was “capable of improving from good to great.”

Billy Graham Movie Out October 10th
The coming-of-age story of 20th century icon Billy Graham will be seen on the big screen this fall through the release of the film Billy: The Early Years. This highly anticipated film will be released theatrically on October 10, 2008 across the country. Billy: The Early Years captures the true essence of Graham’s life’s journey from an earnest young man at the crossroads of faith and doubt, to ultimately facing the moment of decision that launched one of history's most influential evangelists. Starting out with the tranquility of the Graham dairy farm in North Carolina, Billy: The Early Years depicts the look and feel of the Depression-era as we accompany Graham to the tent revival where he finally heeds the altar call, and follows him through the struggle of doubt and resolution of the next decade of his life. The film paints a vivid portrait of Graham against the backdrop of his relationship with the evangelical star of the 1940’s, Charles Templeton, a gifted young preacher whose faith would not withstand the onslaught of scientific skepticism. Templeton and Graham eventually part ways, and in the film, Templeton comes to personify the rising tide of disbelief into which Graham launched his crusades. The movie’s power lies in it’s honest portrayal of Graham’s struggle with the ideas represented in Templeton’s eventual unbelief and shows how Graham’s faith, so compellingly represented in the film, goes on to change the face of modern evangelism in the second half of the 20th Century. Graham is portrayed in the film by rising young star, Armie Hammer (Veronica Mars, Flicka), who was announced as the upcoming Batman/Bruce Wayne in the new film, Justice League: Mortal. Hammer plays an incredibly authentic and poignant Graham, and takes the viewer deep into the heart of this iconic world-renowned yet humble figure. Directed by veteran Actor/Director and Golden Globe nominee, Robby Benson (the voice of the Beast in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Ode To Billy Joe, Ice Castles, The Greatest Story Ever Told), the Billy: The Early Years’ cast includes well-known Hollywood talent including Oscar-winner Martin Landau (Mission: Impossible, Ed Wood) and Lindsay Wagner (The Bionic Woman); as well as Stefanie Butler (CSI: NY), daughter of ex-Atlanta Brave Brett Butler; Kristoffer Polaha (North Shore) and platinum selling country sensation Josh Turner (“Long Black Train”) as singer George Beverly Shea. John Carter Cash, son of John and June Carter Cash, serves as music producer. Together with Rocky Mountain Pictures, In Service America, Interlinc and other additional marketing partners, the Billy: The Early Years marketing plan will seek to create significant grassroots traction while radio, television and newspaper advertising and promotions will work in conjunction with additional aspects of the campaign. The film launch will also encompass a number of strategic marketing elements, including more than 50 VIP screenings in key markets, a soundtrack highlighting Christian and country music artists, key events built around Graham’s 90th birthday, a novel of the work published by Thomas Nelson Publishers and an upcoming home entertainment DVD release. Nashville based Landis Entertainment & Media Partners, run by Barry Landis, will spearhead all marketing aspects of the film, in association with the distributor Solex/MATP. Landis, a long time entertainment marketer of faith-based properties for major, high level entertainment and corporate conglomerates such as Wrigley’s and AT&T was also the head of companies such as Atlantic Records, Warner Bros. and KOCH Records Christian divisions, has made a solid mark on the entertainment world through his visionary accomplishments and multiple career achievements. Producers Larry Mortorff and Martin Shiel commented, “We are extremely excited to be surrounded with such an amazing team and have tremendous confidence in their ability to market this distinguished and touching new film.” Producer Bill McKay said, “Barry Landis is a blend of an entertainment strategist as well as a great wrangler and distiller of the group’s ideas.” Filmed in and around Nashville, Tennessee with a 90% Tennessee crew, Billy: The Early Years made perfect use of the new incentive plan from the state of Tennessee that grants up to a 32% cash rebate. "This particular film is definitely in Tennessee's 'sweet spot',” said Perry Gibson, executive director of the Tennessee Film, Entertainment and Music Commission. “We love the subject matter and were bowled over at how the producers put together such a talented Tennessee cast and crew, as well as garnered some the top names in the Nashville music industry. We’d welcome them back anytime, they were really terrific."

Family Force 5 Joins Tooth And Nail Family
There's a delicate balance between the intertwining worlds of artistry, entertainment and humor, but for Atlanta's best dressed alternative rockers Family Force 5 it's an ecstatic equilibrium that remarkably illustrates all three elements, as proven after one listen to the group's sophomore album Dance Or Die, to be released August 19 on CD and digitally. This release is a strategic partnership between the Transparent Media Group founded by the Olds brothers, manager Chris Woltman and producer Joe Baldridge with EMI Music Marketing and Tooth & Nail Records. "EMI has been involved with Family Force 5 since the beginning," says Bill Gagnon, Senior Vice President of EMI Music. "We are very pleased to partner with the band and with Transparent Media Group for the release of Dance Or Die." Produced by Solomon "Soul Glow Activator" Olds and Joe Baldridge (Beck, Jewel), Dance Or Die oozes with over the top illustrations, charging out of the gate with funky rhythms, percolating club grooves, undeniably infectious rock n' roll hooks and instantaneous sing-alongs. Imagine an inventive evolution of the gang's eye opening debut Business Up Front, Party in the Back mixed with Prince getting down at a Daft Punk concert where Michael Jackson busts out a moonwalk in the center of the dance floor. "The last record was a straight up party, but we always said the second would be a sweaty kind of rock n' roll dance music," says front man and guitarist Solomon "Soul Glow Activator" Olds. Speaking of Rock n' Roll music, the band is currently on the Vans Warped Tour 08 and will soon announce the dates for their fall solo headlining trek. With the tongue firmly planted in cheek, the Atlanta fivesome are just as likely to get the party started as they are a catalyst for allowing audiences to forget the problems around them, never compromising creativity and returning to the days of massive spectacles on tour. "The really interesting part of the story is that we recorded Dance Or Die totally independently, paying for all of the studio time, meals and lodging by ourselves with the whole DIY mentality," notes guitarist Derek "Chap Stique" Mount. It didn't take long for music industry executives to catch wind of this, and before they had even finished recording the band was fielding label offers, finding a new home with EMI Music Marketing and Tooth & Nail Records.

John Schlitt Inducted Into Christian Music Hall Of Fame
Legendary recording artist John Schlitt--solo artist, lead singer for GRAMMY Award-winning Christian band Petra and former lead singer for mainstream rock band Head East--recently joined Michael W. Smith, David Meece, the late Dottie Rambo, Stryper, Ed Enoch, Lou Wills Hildreth and The Staple Singers as one of the newest inductees to enter the Christian Music Hall of Fame. He was previously inducted as a member of Petra in 2007. This honor follows Schlitt's successful international The Grafting Tour, where he recently played before large crowds in India and Mexico. "As I was honored to be recognized last year by the Christian Music Hall of Fame as a member of Petra, it's also a great honor to be recognized as a solo artist this year," Schlitt says. With more than three decades worth of water under the musical bridge, Schlitt has earned multiple Gold Records, GRAMMYs and Dove Awards. He's toured all over the world and has been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. After 20 years fronting Petra, the most successful rock band in Christian music history, Schlitt released his third solo album, The Grafting, on June 24, 2008, on 4K Records. Still passionate about the message of the Gospel and compelled to deliver it in his own inimitable fashion, he called on the multiple talents of rising star producer/songwriter Dan Needham (Amy Grant, Petra, Michael McDonald) to help craft his vision. The result, a stunning collection of nine new songs and one old favorite, is an astonishing, multi-layered look into the very nature of love and life, lost and found in Christ. While the moods may be many, at their core, they are all pure Schlitt. "Dan is my son-in-law, and I had him produce it for me because I knew the sound he would bring would be exactly what the album should sound like," Schlitt says. "It was amazing! He is a natural. There were some other writers that contributed to the songs, including Mark Heimermann, Scott Faircloff, Mark Martel, Kevan Cyka and Steve Merkel, but Dan was the main writer." That close bond between father-in-law and son-in-law allowed for the creation of a uniquely new style for Schlitt--one that appeals not only to the Boomer Generation that grew up on his music, but is also relevant to younger generations. "I wanted it to be an album that would appeal to folks who grew up on Christian rock 'n' roll, an album for folks who want some tension in their music, but not too much," Schlitt explains. The Grafting finds Schlitt exploring uncharted musical territory, while remaining anchored by his unmistakable voice. It is a combination that is sure to please his legion of fans and attract a new generation of adherents. At once intimate and accessible, The Grafting is without a doubt Schlitt's most potent album to date. The Grafting is available on 4K Records and is distributed by TAG Artist Group.
