HM News Update: Week Ending 7-13

The Showdown "Breaks Their Back" On August 19th
Tennessees metal contingent The Showdown is proud to announce the release of their upcoming album, Back Breaker, due August 19 on Solid State Records. The crushing new record marks The Showdowns Solid State debut. Vocalist David Bunton commented on the new album: Back Breaker is the sum of our bands raw power, aggression, and total dedication to heavy metal. Its all about our band getting what we do live on tape. Back Breaker is the record The Showdown made when we stopped caring about anything but heavy metal. If a riff is heavy, you dont have to over think it. Just let it crush you. We are 100% dedicated to heavy metal and pushing ourselves to playing it as loud and rude as possible. For pictures of the new album art, visit invisiblecreature.com/clients/backbreaker (navigate with drop-down box). The art was designed by Invisible Creature (Korn, Norma Jean, Bullet For My Valentine).

Rush Of Fools' Trailer Stolen
Rush Of Fools' trailer full of equipment was stolen on July 3rd and they are requesting prayer and financial help:
Dear Friends,
We need your prayers! Early this morning, Rush Of Fools' trailer was stolen out of our driveway in Alabama. The band has lost everything they own including all merchandise, guitars, cases, amps....anything you would see them play with at a show is gone. Insurance will cover some of the costs, but due to recent purchases and additions to the gear, the value lost is over $60,000. This, as you know, is a major loss for a young band. We know that God has plans in the midst of this. While we look for answers, please pray that our trailer and gear will be found quickly and unharmed. We are all off on vacation this week and Wes gets married on Saturday. Needless to say, its a little extra stress before the wedding.
Our next set of concerts begin on July 14th, and our management company is working now to help find solutions so we can continue to play concerts and share our music with hurting people who need to hear it.
Romans 8:28 says, "And we know that all things work together for good to those that love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." This verse is where we all live and breathe. We trust God in all things, even when we don't have the answers to why someone would do this. It's our prayer that whoever took the gear and trailer would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ through our stuff. Yes, literally, our stuff would be the catalyst to their introduction to Christ.
So, we need your immediate help in two ways. First, if you can pray, please stop right now and ask God to intervene and find our trailer. Second, if you are able to help or know of anyone who may feel led to financially help, in replacing our gear, we would love that support.
You not only are the best fans in the world, but you are our friends too. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for us, our band, and our families.

Pillar Become Teachers
All four members of the GRAMMY-nominated rock band Pillar have become solid leaders and mentors in the Christian Rock genre. Rob Beckley, Noah Henson, Kalel and Lester Estelle all expanded this impact a bit further this week, by teaching classes at Camp Electric, in Nashville, Tenn., where the Dove Award-winning band also rocked a full-set for camp attendees on Tuesday night, July 1. Students of the guys in Pillar were privileged to insights about just what it takes to make it in the music industry, and received specific instruction on the role each member plays in the band. Mr. Beckley taught about being a lead vocalist. Mr. Henson spoke about rocking the guitar. Mr. Wittig shared his wisdom about playing bass. Mr. Estelle wowed his students (continuously) with his expertise behind the drums. Pillars current album, For the Love of the Game, is in stores now. Camp Electric, presented by Air 1 and K-LOVE, brings together Christian musicians and teaches them band dynamics, the art of leading worship and performance skills.

Empiric Records Signs One Minute Halo
Texas rock band One Minute Halo recently signed with Dallas-based indie label Empiric Records and plans to release its debut album Against the Grain in early 2009. The project will have national distribution via Empiric and Universal/Fontana. Vocalist Jeromy Moorehead, guitarists Joey Catalano and Terry Johnson, bassist Chris Downs and drummer Brian Butts are One Minute Halo. Playing shows with heavyweights like Taproot, Sevendust, Kittie and Filter, the band thrives on touring, amassing hundreds of performances to sharpen itself sonically. Its music is heavy, melodic and dynamic, bringing a universal lyrical appeal that relates to a variety of listeners. We are thrilled about the awakening of this musical giant, One Minute Halo, says Charles A. Cheshire, Jr., president of Empiric Records. We have witnessed firsthand the dedication of these young men, both spirituality as well as professionally, and know their passion for creating great music will bless others as it has us. To give fans a taste of the upcoming album, One Minute Halo released a four-song EP entitled Places on July 1. All four songs will also appear on the full-length album that was produced by Pillars Noah Henson and Travis Wyrick (P.O.D., Pillar, 10 Years, Disciple). As a special promotion, fans that purchase the EP will receive the full-length Against the Grain for five dollars. Additionally, the bands debut single Under the Blue Skies goes for adds at Christian Rock radio on July 7. The song explores the struggle of saying goodbye to loved ones that leave for war, while asking Gods grace in dealing with loneliness, starvation, injury and death. Musically the band fires all barrels, mixing melodic heft with subtle dynamics, all while a heavy chorus and a scream-core breakdown serve as solid bedrock. One Minute Halo is managed by Michael Kalel Wittig of Pillar along with JMA Music, and this fall the band will join fellow rockers Spoken for a three-week run in September. The group is also scheduled to appear on Shout Fest this fall.

downhere's Fourth CD Comes Out On September 23rd
One of Christian musics premiere rock bands, downhere, is poised to release a brand-new CD on September 23, 2008. The follow-up to the critically acclaimed, Wide Eyed & Mystified, features twelve new songs, plus the bonus track How Many Kings their 2007 hit. All of the songs on the CD were written by Marc Martel & Jason Germain and produced by Mark Hiemermann (DC Talk, MWS), Stephen Gause (Jars of Clay, Derek Webb) and downhere. Ending Is Beginning takes the listener to a deeper place in their faith as downheres band members, Jason Germain, Marc Martel, Glenn Lavender, and Jeremy Thiessen, speak candidly about how theyre handling their struggles of life while also preparing for the triumph promised by their faith. The title reflects the idea of coming to the end of yourself, of letting what you cant change be and letting God make His strength known in our weakness, says downhere. Those things that we all experience, things that dont seem to run true, He often uses to achieve His ultimate aims for us. God uses us in our weakness. He is closest to us when we most need him. We want to capture that idea in the work were doing now, so Ending Is Beginning in many ways reflects of where were at. The CD tackles the tough issues of Christianity with Hope Is Rising focusing on losing your earthly optimism but gaining a sunrise for eternity, while Cathedral Made Of People talks about the tough road Christians sometimes have to face while standing up for their faith. Live For You talks about loving without fear and being faithful enough to see your mission clearly. Here I Am lyrics clearly outline the test of faith; When setbacks and failures, and upset plans/Test my faith and leave me with empty hands/Are you not the closest when its hardest to stand?/I know that you will finish what you began. We wanted to make an important record, Martel emphasizes. You get the sense in the world right now that maybe something really big is going to happen soon, that maybe the way of life we enjoy isnt going to last much longer. We had that in mind as we wrote; we want to write songs that have meaning, no matter how things are going.

Cindy Morgan Releases Latest Project Digitally
With her first venture into producing, Cindy Morgan has recently released her latest, self produced and self distributed offering, Beautiful Bird, exclusively on digital format, available at her website and iTunes. ChristianMusicToday.com calls her brand new album Beautiful Bird, hands down, the best album of Cindy Morgan's career, offering her strongest, most consistent batch of songs while continuing to demonstrate an ear for solid pop craftsmanship. Beautiful Bird returns Morgan to her Appalachian roots and is a mix of diverse musical styles which Morgan has been a fan of throughout her life. The project contains a mix of Pop, Appalachia, Country, and Symphonic styles and is receiving some of the strongest reviews of her career. In her own words Morgan says," I cant choose the cello over the doboro so I wanted to make a record where they could live together. I am also a great admirer and pursuer of the art of writing a great country song. A lot of the lyrics are from that approach." Morgan explains her choice to self-produce, stating, I have produced my own demos for years and have spent the better part of my adult life in a studio, but until now, I hadnt felt completely ready for such a task. I have been so fortunate to work with so many great producers over the years, continued Morgan. For the last couple of years, there has been a strong sense in my heart to step out and stand on my own two creative feet. So that is what I decided to do. I headed up the production of this record, but certainly not without a lot of help on the technical side of things from my engineer and co-producer Stephen Leiweke (Jars Of Clay, Margaret Becker, Kids In The Way). Morgan made the choice to release Beautiful Bird exclusively in digital format through her website (cindymorganmusic.com) and iTunes as well as other hand picked online outlets. The wonderful thing about doing a record like this is that you throw the rule book out the window it really leaves the creative spirit free to let each song and the record as a whole be what it is without boundaries that often squash the creative process, she says.

Krystal Meyers' New Video Premieres On Yahoo!
Pop artist Krystal Meyers brand-new music video, Make Some Noise, the title-track from her upcoming, September 9, 2008 album release, will will premiere on Yahoo! on Thursday, July 10, 2008, where it is expected to garner as many as 2-3 million impressions, along with 150,000 full streams of the video. The clip was filmed in late April of 2008, in the 19-year-olds hometown of Nashville, Tenn. Make Some Noise is Meyers third studio album. The 10-track project, entirely written or co-written by Meyers, was recorded in Brentwood, Tenn. at Dutchland Studio, and was produced by Doubledutch (Mat Kearney, TobyMac). Its about getting out there and making a positive impact, shares Meyers, who has become a major pop star in Japan over the last couple of years. Many people say that my generation is a dying generation; that were hopeless and have nowhere to go, but I dont agree. I think people are more involved. We care about the environment, social justice, politics, those in need - we care about things that are making a difference in our world. Its important for us to make an impact, but the only way to make an impact is if you are loud about it. You cant just sit in a corner and be reserved. Live out loud! Make some noise! The four-time Dove Award nominee continues, This music is fun and energetic and is going to be fun on stage. Its a different kind of energy. Some of the songs like S.O.S. and My Freedom are more guitar-driven, but there are other songs like Shine, the first radio single, that are totally 80s-inspired, fun, dance, pop/rock music. Its a diverse record that defines my different musical layers. Make Some Noise comprises the following ten tracks (sequence subject to change): Make Some Noise, Love It Away, Shine, S.O.S., Feels So Right, My Freedom, Beautiful Tonight, Up To You, Youll Never Know, and In Your Hands. A beautiful young woman, always effortlessly fashionable, Meyers is almost an anomaly in todays culture. In a world where young artists seem to continually wind up as troubled tabloid fodder, shes a successful recording artist who is incredibly grounded and ever mindful of her platform as an influencer. Shes equally comfortable appearing on the cover of Nylon Magazine (Japan) or speaking to young girls on the Revolve tour, an outing shes looking forward to this fall. Meyers first burst on the scene with her self-titled Essential Records debut in 2005, spawning her breakthrough hit Anticonformity, a song she wrote at camp before entering ninth grade. Her debut set spawned four top ten singles and also launched her career abroad. Her sophomore album, Dying For a Heart, solidified Meyers stature as one of the top artists in Christian musicearning her a second Dove nomination in the female vocalist of the year category--and boosting her audience overseas, earning her major pop star status in Japan. Meyers has performed before more than 400,000 people, and will be part of the Fall 2008, 16-city Revolve Arena Tour.

Get Ready For Purple Door
One of the Northeasts must-see events of the year, Purple Door Arts and Music Festival will host three music stages, speakers, an art gallery, a skate park, paintball and much more August 15-16 at Ski Roundtop in Lewisberry, PA. Purple Door will feature some of the hottest current artists on Main Stage, including Emery, Skillet, Sherwood, Disciple, and Red, Pennsylvania natives who are taking a break from their summer tour with Seether to play Purple Door. The HM Stage will feature heavier rock bands such as August Burns Red, Haste The Day, The Showdown, and Oh Sleeper. The Gallery Stage, highlighting the more eclectic artists, will host Seabird , Dennison Witmer, who is playing at his 10th Purple Doorthe most any artist has played, and accomplished female harpist, Timbre. "We're really excited about the Festival events this year," exclaims Purple Door Director, Chris Strayer. "Purple Door was started to show that creativity does have a place in the Church. We want the fest to encourage the artists as well as the thousands who attend. This is why having an art gallery and diverse performers like Foxhole, Timbre and Denison Witmer are as much a priority for us as immensely popular bands like Red or Haste The Day. In addition to the exciting band lineup, Purple Door wants to tastefully share the gospel of Jesus Christ by inviting thoughtful communicators to speak on main stage. Purple Door 2008 will host speakers Bob Lenz, who has been speaking to youth across the nation for 20 years, and Kurt Weaver, co-founder of Purple Door and pastor. Pastor Kurt Weaver's dedication and servant attitude has been an inspiration to all of us since Purple Door was a nameless bunch of ideas scribbled in my old spiral notebook, explains Timothy Eddings, festival co-founder. This festival exists because of Kurts leadership and tireless persistence in those early years. I'm pretty excited that my old friend, who has worked 5,000 plus hours behind the scenes making Purple Door happen, is now getting to share his heart on the main stage. He's a great choice to speak at Purple Door because of how much he sincerely cares about both the fans and the artists who attend this fest. In keeping with Festival tradition, Purple Door will also host the Art Gallery, with hopes of inspiring artists to use their gifts of creativity to reflect their spiritual worldview. Emerging artists can submit their paintings, photography, sculptures and other art that shows attention to concept and craftsmanship to be showcased in this juried art show. Artwork will be judged by prominent area artists, whose work will also be featured in the Art Gallery.

Superchick Has Biggest Debut Week Of Its Career
Inpop Records band Superchick made career history, posting its highest ever first week sales numbers. Consequently, Superchick claimed prime positioning on multiple retail and digital sales charts. Nabbing the No. 2 position on Nielson SoundScans Top Christian Albums chart, Superchicks June 24 release, Rock What You Got, sold nearly 10,000 copies its first week, the bands most impressive sales debut to date. Trailing the No. 1 title by 12 scans, Superchick is thrilled with the turnout in support of its latest release. Next to my salvation and my wedding, this has been one of the greatest weeks of my life, says bassist Matt Dally. I look forward to seeing how the charts shape up in the weeks to come. Additionally, Rock What You Got ranked No. 2 on the SoundScan Adult Contemporary Christian Albums chart and No. 3 on its Digital Christian Albums chart. The title fared well by Billboard as well, coming in at No. 3 on its Top Christian/Gospel Albums chart and No. 65 on the Top 200 chart. This incredible first-week number is a true indication of Superchicks status as one of Christian musics top-selling and touring artists, says Dale Bray, president of Inpop Records. The band has worked relentlessly over its career and after 300,000 scans of Beauty From Pain, this is an amazing follow-up release and will cement its career for many years to come. Its proof that true quality does rise to the top, and we look forward to a long sales history of what is sure to be an award-winning album. Superchicks first album in three years, Rock What You Got finds the band honing a rock-o-tronic sound, an electro-punk mash-up of slashing guitars, pulsing keyboards and grit-pop vocals. While Superchicks last album, Beauty From Pain, sought to empathize with listeners pain, band members have since walked their own dark, lonely roads with relationship splits and cancer touching four of their families. Rather than expound upon these personal hardships, Superchick turned Rock What You Got, produced by the bands own Max Hsu (tobyMac, newsboys), into a battle cry to charge onward. In support of the new album, Superchicks current radio singles Hold and Hey Hey are top 20 at CHR and Rock respectively. The band will also kick off the Rock What You Got fall tour this September with special guests Stellar Kart, Article One and Starlit Platoon.

In addition to their current appearances on the One Shot Tour with hip hop artist Bobby Bishop, as well as summer festival appearances, The Wrecking is set to open shows for Jeremy Camp, Ten Shekel Shirt and EleventySeven this fall/winter. The One Shot Tour has proven to be a major outreach to youth. In late August, world-renowned speaker/author Josh McDowell will join the One Shot Tour near Boston, Massachusetts. To date, Josh has written or co-written 77 books on topics ranging from Christian apologetics to common problems facing youth. Among his most popular contributions on apologetics is "Evidence That Demands A Verdict," which he published in 1972 and was recognized by World Magazine as one of the century's top 40 books. Josh McDowell's radio show is heard on about 400 stations throughout the United States. The Wrecking's MySpace page is currently experiencing 1200-1400 plays per day as they criss-cross the country doing tour dates as well as just completing a midwest radio tour. The Wrecking's new single "Inside" from A NEW ABOLITION is also featured on the Underground Sound Series. The new series features 15 of the "hottest up-and-coming acts in Christian music today." The Wrecking has already signed a licensing agreement with the MTV Network for the songs from A NEW ABOLITION to be placed on various shows and networks such as MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Spike tv, among others. Campus Target, an organization that sends college-age kids to various Asian college campuses to reach people for Christ, is using The Wrecking's song "The Deep" on a 90-second video that will be broadcast to approximately 80,000 people at Creation Northeast. Campus Target will continue to use the song as part of the main promotional video for their organization. In addition to partnering with Love 146, The Wrecking also works with International Justice Mission, a human rights agency that secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression.
