Underoath Gets All Jiggy
UNDEROATH will release their first-ever live CD and concert DVD SURVIVE, KALEIDOSCOPE May 27 on Tooth & Nail/Solid State. Recorded during the group's fall headlining U.S. trek at numerous tour stops and mixed by Beau Burchell, guitarist for Saosin, the 12-song live CD portion and features nine tracks from UNDEROATH's gold-certified breakthrough album Define The Great Line as well as "A Boy Brushed Red Living in Black and White," "It's A Dangerous Business Just Walking Out Your Front Door" and "Young And Aspiring"--all off of the group's They're Only Chasing Safety disc. The 65-minute live DVD concert film--shot in its entirety at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia, PA--is presented in 16:9 widescreen and offers fans a glimpse at UNDEROATH's unique stage and lighting set up for an ambient visual and audio one-time-only concert experience. The DVD--which features 14 tracks back-to-back--was shot by Art & Industry and edited by Ryan Gardner of the Audible Diversion Group. The audio was mixed by producer Adam Dutkiewicz, guitarist for Killswitch Engage. "The footage on the live DVD came out far above our expectations, and Adam and Beau outdid themselves in the audio department," says UNDEROATH guitarist TIM MCTAGUE. The acclaimed hard rock group are renowned worldwide for their cathartic and frenzied live performances, as underlined by SURVIVE, KALEIDOSCOPE. Revolver magazine has noted that "Underoath have become one of the most punishing metalcore powerhouses around and--in the pouring rain--they delivered an astonishingly brutal set that proved them worthy of the buzz surrounding them." Metro Times (Detroit, MI) weighed in by saying, "While Define the Great Line added melody and dynamics without sacrificing the intensity of the sextet's metal-hardcore hybrid, nothing, compares to the band's writhing live performances." Elsewhere, as noted in the Providence Journal, "Underoath were the headliners; with punishing bass and drums, crunching guitar and a horror-movie tinge to singer Spencer Chamberlain's delivery that all give the religious themes of the lyrics universal appeal." Creative Loafing (Atlanta, GA) summed it up in one (Almost Famous-like) word: "incendiary." UNDEROATH has announced a special pre-order of SURVIVE, KALEIDOSCOPE at a discounted price through their new merchandising store which is run by the Audible Diversion Group. Special pre-order packages include a custom Underoath t-shirt designed by artist Justin Nelson (Verdure Studio) and a limited quantity of packages with posters autographed by the band are available until supplies last. The Audible Diversion Group--a merchandising and film company formed by Tim McTague of Underoath, Jay Vilardi guitarist for The Almost and filmmaker Ryan Gardner--has now taken over the webstores for Underoath and The Almost. Visit: www.underoath777.com and www.thealmost.com to see the revamped web stores for each band. UNDEROATH--lead vocalist SPENCER CHAMBERLAIN, guitarist TIM MCTAGUE, bassist GRANT BRANDELL, drummer AARON GILLESPIE, keyboardist CHRISTOPHER DUDLEY and guitarist JAMES SMITH--have solidly built their fan base from incessant touring and their unrelentingly intense live shows, establishing an unbreakable bond with their fans. The combined sales of their three albums are over one million copies. UNDEROATH will headline the Hot Topic stage on this summer's Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour, joining Slipknot, Disturbed, Mastodon, Dragonforce, Machine Head and many others. Dove Awards News
Disciple won a Dove Award for "Best Rock Album of the Year." Congrats go to this hard-working band. Disciple took top honors for their sophomore project “Scars Remain” (2006). With seven nominations to the band’s name, lead singer Kevin Young is pumped about their first win saying "We are all so very happy and honored to have won the Dove Award for ‘Rock Album of the Year’ with ‘Scars Remain.’ This was our eighth nomination and our first win. Over the years I always would get butterflies every time our category would come up , but would always hear someone else's name called every time until last night. So needless to say, I was truly shocked. We are so thankful to God for using our music, and to the Gospel Music Association for recognizing us.” Currently on the “Cross the Line” tour with Superchick, the band is also working on a new project set to release this fall. The Knoxville, Tenn. foursome’s first self-titled studio release “Disciple” (2005) sold nearly 100,000 units and brought home three No. 1 hits. Disciple has also been nominated for a whopping eight Gospel Music Awards, and their sophomore album “Scars Remain” (2006) has already garnered a No. 1 hit. “Game On” from their sophomore project that also received massive placement in sports shows across the country including “Best Damn Sports Show,” NFL’s “Total Axxess”, WWE’s “Cyber Sunday” and Speed TV’s “Speed Report,” as well as venues such as Wachovia Center in Philadelphia and even Madison Square Garden in New York City. The single was also used in promotion for “Criminal Minds” and “CSI Miami.” The rockers were also chosen to write a song for “WWE: The Music Vol. 8” and WWE superstar duo Hawkins and Ryder. Atlantic/Ardent/INO artist Skillet and INO Record’s Disciple are celebrating rock wins at last night’s 39th annual GMA Dove Awards with each bringing home their first career statues. After 16 nominations, Skillet won “Rock Recorded Song of the Year” for “Comatose” written by John Cooper and Brian Howes from their 2006 release of the same name. “The GMA Award show was absolutely awesome! It made me feel even more proud to be a part of the Christian music industry. Winning the Dove was an unexpected highlight of the night, second only to saying ‘Hi’ to Amy Grant and giving her a high five,” says Skillet front man John Cooper. Skillet is currently headlining their COMATOSE tour and selling out numerous venues across the country, recently including New York City’s Grand Ballroom. Skillet’s explosive 2006 Lava/Atlantic/Ardent/INO Records GRAMMY-nominated release, Comatose follows 2004’s Collide, which launched the group into the public eye and garnered the band their first prestigious Grammy nomination. A critical fave, Comatose has become their best-selling project to date, doubling the sales of Collide in half the time. In follow up to packed out headline club shows, a tour with Flyleaf, and summer festivals Skillet spent last fall opening for mainstream rockers Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace. In the process of becoming one of the hardest working, most rocking, and broadly appealing acts of its generation, radio welcomed Comatose with open arms, as the first single, “Rebirthing” spent seven-weeks at No.1 on Christian Rock. Their second single, “The Last Night,” also took the top spot, this time at both Rock and CHR (CRW/R&R), while their latest singles, “The Older I Get” (CHR/Rock) and “Comatose” have become their third and fourth consecutive No. 1 singles. At the end of 2007 the band was lauded with R&R’s No. 1 Christian CHR Song of the Year for “The Last Night”, which was also R&R’s No. 2 Christian Rock song of the year. In addition, Skillet was named 2007’s No. 2 top artist on both the CHR and ROCK year end lists. For more information go to skillet.com.

John Schlitt Opens Doors to Media
Are you in the media, darling? Or are you a "media darling?" John Schlitt, multi-Grammy winning recording artist and lead singer of Petra, will hold an open media rehearsal session and 'meet and greet' opportunity Thursday, May 1 at 3 p.m. PDT at Columbia City Theater, 4916 Rainier Ave. South, Seattle, Wash. Media personnel are invited to attend the live rehearsal, showcasing Schlitt’s third solo album, The Grafting, recently released on Schlitt’s own 4K Records. The event launches The Grafting Tour, set to begin May 8 in India, covering six cities with eight performances throughout the country. Guests are invited to be a part of the rehearsal, and to personally meet Schlitt in this intimate and private setting. Cameras and photographs are encouraged, as are questions and interviews with Schlitt. Reviews of The Grafting are also welcomed. Backing Schlitt on The Grafting Tour is StoneJava, a five-member band hailing from their hometown of Seattle. StoneJava consists of Roger Wood, music director and keyboardist; Rusty Urie, lead guitarist; George Aragon, drummer; Pete Ortega, bassist; and Jakael Tristram, lead guitarist. StoneJava members have collectively shared the stage with the likes of Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, Kool and the Gang, Average White Band, KC & The Sunshine Band, Taylor Dayne, Bryan Duncan, Andrea Crouch, Glenn Frey, and Beck, to name a few. From his days with mainstream rock outfit Head East, to his career with Petra, which spanned nearly two decades, Schlitt has achieved nearly every accolade the music business has to offer, including two RIAA certified Gold albums, four Grammy Awards, 10 Dove Awards, numerous chart-topping singles, sold out world tours, and inductions into the Hard Rock Café and Gospel Music Hall of Fame. In addition to being “the voice of Petra” Schlitt has had a successful solo career yielding an impressive body of work including his 1995 release Shake followed by Unfit For Swine in 1996. The Grafting, which many consider to be his finest work to date, tackles a variety of sensitive issues including adoption, divorce, caring for third world children and more, letting the emotions of the songs take the lead instead of trendy gimmicks. This combination gives The Grafting a style that is both unique and timeless. “The lyrical focus of this album is on relationships, both horizontal and vertical,” according to Schlitt. “The songs acknowledge that we're not going to get through this life without bumps, bruises and hurts. Life can be hard. It is messy. There are hard decisions to make and responsibilities to face – but we have a God who is there with us, helping us get through,” states Schlitt. “The songs on The Grafting have been on my heart for a long while” says Schlitt. “Now that Petra is retired, the moment is right to move forward in my solo career. It’s timely for me to do an album like this; not only from the standpoint of the subject matter, but also in the fact that the music itself is going down a whole new path,” explains Schlitt. The new path is not the rock of Petra, but the heart and soul of Schlitt. “These are songs that still contain the rock elements, but are more diversified in their stylings,” says Schlitt. “It’s where I’m at today, musically.” To hear a preview of The Grafting, visit johnwschlitt.com

Gravity.. “We are so honored to be a part of the Prince Caspian film with ‘This Is Home,’” says Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman. “The Narnia stories have a really special place in my brother Tim and my lives. Our dad used to read these to us at bedtime when we were boys. Our imaginations were shaped on these amazing novels. “‘This Is Home’ was inspired by the book after re-reading it for the opportunity to write for the film,” continues Foreman. “I am always taken by [C. S.] Lewis' ability to write about the bittersweet beauty in this world; this home we aren’t really made for but is the place we work out our humanity in the midst of our longing for our true home.” And... “We are encouraged to continue our collaboration with Walt Disney Studios with the new Switchfoot song ‘This is Home’ for the new Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian film,” says Peter York, EMI CMG Label Group president. “The band continues to create thought provoking music and has been truly inspired by the C. S. Lewis series. It felt like a natural fit, and it’s an honor to continue to work with the Music/Creative team at Walt Disney Studios.” And... “Going back to our first Narnia film, ‘The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe,’ Switchfoot was at the top of our creative list of artists whose sound and artistry we felt was a perfect fit,” said Mitchell Leib, President of Music and Soundtracks for Walt Disney Studios. “When approached for ‘Prince Caspian,’ Jon Foreman had a concise read on the story and delivered a stellar, important composition and record, which we feel reflects our film brilliantly. We are proud to have Switchfoot involved and to be working with our friends at EMI CMG once again.”
About Switchfoot:
With over 5 million records sold, three albums in the Billboard Top 20, two top-five singles at both pop and alternative radio, performances on all the major late night talk shows, a Les Paul Horizon Award, and one of the Top 50 Most Performed Songs of 2005 with “Dare You To Move” (ASCAP), Switchfoot is recognized as one of the hardest touring bands in rock. Currently on its “Up In Arms Tour” that benefits To Write Love On Her Arms, the San Diego-based band has sold over three million concert tickets worldwide since the 2003 release of its double-Platinum breakthrough album The Beautiful Letdown. Oh! Gravity., Switchfoot’s newest studio album, debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes Top Albums chart and has received stellar reviews, with Billboard magazine calling it “the best of the San Diego group’s nearly 10-year recording career.” Spin exclaims this album is “their liveliest record, full of dive-bombing guitar fuzz, juicy arena-alt choruses.” “This is an outstanding record in every sense,” raved Associated Press. MTV’s “Life of Ryan” tapped the album’s title track for its theme song as the album showcases a harder rock direction for Switchfoot. With an ever-growing fan base, Switchfoot has also been actively involved in a number of humanitarian causes since its inception, including DATA, Bono’s THE ONE Campaign, Invisible Children and Habitat for Humanity. The band further founded the Switchfoot Bro-Am, a surfing and music benefit-event, and the online magazine, lowercase people (www.lowercasepeople.com), a daring new endeavor to revolutionize the way beauty, truth and humanity is viewed. More information about the band can be found at switchfoot.com. Frisbee Movie Expands ... Larry Norman Flick To Follow
"On the Frisbee documentary, we were picked up for distribution by Passion River Films, which means that we will be on Netflix and in some Blockbuster locations as of May 7, 2008. In fact, Frisbee will be one of the movies that you can watch online at Netflix. So, tell your friends. Too, we finally got around to cutting the beta version for release into the PBS network through an organization called NETA. So, very shortly, there should be news on Frisbee being played in local PBS outlets around the country. My assistant and I have just returned from Nashville where we played a 90 minute very rough cut of what will eventually be a documentary on the life of Larry Norman. Tenatively titled THE OUTLAW LARRY NORMAN, this rough was played for a group of folks who worked with Larry throughout the 1970s and had gathered to pay their respects to him with his recent passing. Funny enough, it was very similar to when I first showed the first rough of Frisbee to a group of family and friends. The subject matter pushes a lot of buttons and packs a lot of emotional power, something that I keep forgetting because my head is so close to the material. But I came away from our two-day jaunt with a better perspective, and with renewed zeal that we aren't far from having a very rich documentary of a man who defies easy answers. You aren't going to want to miss that one. If you thought Lonnie was a character... sheesh. We are also working alongside of KQED in San Francisco to obtain a LINCS grant through ITVS that would allow us to put together a documentary on the Jesus movement proper. We have a five minute rough that we are submitting that is pretty good, and I am heartened by the responses that I have gotten back from the PBS people to continue to send them my materials. Here's hoping."

Telecast Does Worship Project
Known as the band that keeps a simple approach, yet deeply rooted lyrics and production, Telecast (BEC Recordings) releases their worship project today aptly titled Quiet Revolution. In an answer to their own questions raised from too much "noise" and clutter in life, Telecast embraces the simple joys of spending time alone with God in a life with many distractions. With such a perfect mix of theology and simplicity, Quiet Revolution gives the listener a balance of unhindered worship. With Telecast's third album on BEC Recordings, Quiet Revolution, White and his band accomplish that goal in spades with a beautifully crafted collection of 12 songs that serve as a call to holiness for believers. Telecast will be hitting the road with Robbie Seay Band beginning next month. For tour dates updated daily, go to Telecast's MySpace. Telecast's story is such of a prodigal son with reuniting with God and challenging listeners to live a life worthy of His calling. Josh White was once a member of a popular mainstream band in Seattle, Man Ray, which was signed to Mercury Records in 1997. Despite modest success, however, the band was later dropped from the label, and White went on to form another band called Medicate. Before long that pursuit began feeling empty, and White began re-embracing a closer relationship with God. Now with Telecast, White has never been happier to write about his love for God. Of course, White's the first to admit that he doesn't always have everything together, considering he's a pastor and worship leader at Solid Rock Church and a professional musician. And while the juggling act is never easy, White's resolve certainly is single-minded: "I want to bring theology back to music and be as Jesus-focused as possible. Pure and simple." Telecast is composed of: Josh White, Bobby Love, Luke Stillar, Brook Mosser, Zach Hodges, John Mark Comer and Ashley Elder. For more information on Telecast and Quiet Revolution click here.
Run Kid Run Drops Love At The Core
After releasing their debut This Is Who We Are in 2006, Run Kid Run (Tooth&Nail Records) is thrilled to release their sophomore project Love at the Core, which weaves ten exuberant pop/rock songs and the core message that a relationship with God is central to the essence of life. "The world often gives love a different meaning than what was originally intended," says Endicott. "On this record we set out to find what love really entails. 'Love at the core' just nails the point that, in all situations, the heart of love always has to do with God." Produced by James Paul Wisner (Dashboard Confessional, Paramore) over a two-month stretch in Florida, the new release expands on what Run Kid Run started with its 2006 debut, which charted the radio hits "We've Only Just Begun" and "Sing to Me." Both tracks gained exposure in American Eagle and Hollister stores and on daytime television, and led fans to sample the band's songs nearly one million times at MySpace. Showing the unique range of Love at the Core's theme, "One in a Million" effectively repeats the lyric about how life explodes, this time in relation to romantic love that honors God. And what might at first seem like boy-girl love songs are actually powerful praises to God alone on "My Sweet Escape" and the should-be smash "Fall into the Light." Indeed, Run Kid Run was born out of a culture where music does most of the talking. Each member came up drawing inspiration from the rich well of young alternative bands signed to Tooth & Nail Records. Neil Endicott, David Josiah Curtis, and Matt Jackson first signed to that label as Side Walk Slam. Paul Stewart joined later having played with acclaimed independent act Slingshot57. Run Kid Run is currently on the Hawk Nelson Green T tour. The band will continue playing for fans nationwide throughout the next coming months and summer festivals. For tour dates go to their official MySpace.
