The Myriad Kicks Butt On MTV
KOCH Record’s Seattle-based alternative rock band, The Myriad has been receiving an enormous amount of support from MTV, including massive airplay for the current “A Clean Shot” video and upcoming appearances and features on the network. The Myriad is currently receiving video airplay across all 3 of the MTV Network rock platforms (MTV, MTV Hits and MTV2), as well as on the Discover and Download section of the MTV website. Last week, the band spent two days, as one of only 52 bands selected in the world, at the MTV studios in New York filming approximately 25 different ad spots for the 52/52 campaign. This promotion spotlights one artist per week in skits and short performances during the channel’s own program promotions, giving the artist approximately eleven hours of on-air commercial time during each given week. The Myriad will be the featured artist in the 52/52 campaign during street week of the band’s upcoming album “With Arrows, With Poise,” the week of May 12, 2008. Thrice Rocking The Road
I had mixed feelings as I drove from the Austin airport to the Frank Erwin Center, where I was to join friends inside the big arena to see Rush perform a three-hour show. On the way there I drove right past Stubb's, where I saw the Invisible Children bus and Thrice's bus parked outside, as they were performing a show that same night. If you're like me, you probably missed them on Late Night With Conan O'Brien last night, too. They were to perform A Song Off The Alchemy Index: Vols. III & IV - Earth & Air on the show. DeGarmo & Key Rock After Doves Party
Last year’s ASCAP Awards Dinner featured a brief set by Christian rock pioneers DeGarmo & Key, recipients of the Visionary Award. Long known for their live performance, hit songs, and ground breaking videos, the band stepped on stage for their first live performance in a dozen years. The performance was so well received, the Gospel Music Association requested an encore live performance for the 2008 Post Dove Award Party at the Sheraton Music City, and they have also been invited to play select dates including the K-Love Friends & Family Cruise and at the Cornerstone Festival. Their first public performance after more than a decade removed from taking the stage together was at the dedication of the new facility for The Love of Christ Church in Memphis, founded and pastored by Dana Key. When the word spread through the grapevine that D&K was performing live for the first time since leaving the road, calls from all over the country poured into the church wanting specific performance information as long time fans wanted to plan their trip. But last night was no exception – Stephen Matthews, a long time D&K fan who has seen dozens of shows, flew in with his wife to enjoy a piece of Christian music history.

“It was quite an honor to be asked to perform again for our friends and fans. The party was a blast complete with seeing some of our vintage D@K t-shirts from back in the day worn by some of the crowd. It was also mindblower to experience the warm reaction of the new folks- maybe hearing our music for the first time. It will be a great memory for me.”
-Eddie DeGarmo

“Stepping back on stage after all this time brought back great memories. Playing for people we have known for years, as well as all the new faces and getting the great response they gave was amazing. It is funny – people from the church where I pastor never knew that side of me until we played at the dedication, and they loved it. With a couple of more performances ahead, who knows. I never thought we would have been where we are now, but having people still love it, well, it does make for interesting thoughts of what God might do next.”
-Dana Key

The Post Dove Party was the first time the Christian music industry at large had the opportunity to see D&K live in more than a decade. The boys rocked the house, and the capacity crowd held up their cell phones to take pictures and record a piece of a song, and D&K provided an opportunity for them to hear their favorite from their string of hits – Casual Christian, Rock Solid, Boycott Hell, Emmanuel, I’m Accepted, Destined to Win, Every Moment, 666, and closing with Long Distance Runner. Joining Eddie and Dana on Destined to win was Jason Dunn, lead singer from Hawk Nelson. Perhaps the piece that best showcased their signature Memphis Rock sound was the extended Jam featuring Eddie’s Hammond B-3 and Dana’s searing guitar.

“I would not be in Nashville if it were not for D&K. In 1982 when I first heard “Emmanuel” off of “No Turning Back Live” I was stopped in my tracks. I had never heard any Christian music that could compete with the musicianship of the mainstream artists that I was listening to. Hearing D&K last night reminded me of that time and what incredible musicians they are. They haven’t lost a beat.”
-Dan Pitts, Manager, Tobymac & Mandisa

“Eddie and Dana still have it!”
-Scott Brickell, Manager, Mercy Me

When not performing, Dana continues to pastor The Love of Christ Church, and Eddie is President of EMI Christian Music Publishing. Apart from the upcoming cruise and Cornerstone Festival, the guys have no plans for future dates . . . but before last year, they never imagined they would have the 5 performances on the schedule. So, who knows? The excitement of last night, the response from the audience, and the pure fun of doing it again could lead one to speculate.

D&K rocked the house at the GMA Dove Awards After-Party. I was pumped that they agreed to come back together for this special evening. They sounded like they had never stopped playing. It was nostalgic for some of us but a new – and no doubt enjoyable – experience for others. Rock solid!!
–John Styll, President, Gospel Music Association

Passion DVDs Available for First Time at Retail
For the first time, live messages from the founder of the Passion movement are available in retail outlets. Louie Giglio, Visionary Architect and Director of Passion Conferences/sixstepsrecords, shares three of his most compelling talks in The Passion Talk Series (Sparrow/sixstepsrecords), which arrive in retail stores April 29, 2008. The three sought-after DVDs, entitled Indescribable, How Great is Our God, and Hope—When Life Hurts Most, are each accompanied by a corresponding music CD. Each Passion Talk Series DVD is a live video talk containing a full-length message from Giglio, as well as a bonus music CD. Each DVD combo will retail for $14.99 and feature five songs from Passion/sixsteprecords artists, which complement the accompanying DVD talk. "The amazing thing about this series, is that without any real promotion more than 100,000 copies have already been sold directly through Passion's website," says Peter York, EMI CMG Label Group president. "We believe making these talks available through wider retail distribution will finally allow us to begin meeting the growing demand for this message." More than 500,000 students have attended a Passion event during the past decade, and more than 1.6 million copies of live Passion event albums have been sold. Passion and Louie Giglio have been featured in many media outlets including The New York Times and the cover of Christianity Today. Indescribable, recorded during Chris Tomlin’s “Indescribable Tour” in 2005, features a 45-minute talk from Giglio. Rush of Fools Wins "Song of Year" Award
ASCAP recently awarded Kevin Huguley and Wes Willis from Rush Of Fools, along with Scott Davis, the Song Of The Year Award for "Undo" during the 30th Annual Christian Awards Dinner held in Nashville, Tenn. on April 22, 2008. The recent award accolade builds on the group’s astounding musical achievements since its debut self-titled 2007 CD release which exploded at radio producing the Radio and Records 2007 Song of the Year with “Undo.” The record was also the 2nd best selling new artist release of the year. With unprecedented radio success, multiple Dove Award nominations, exclusive partnerships and national tour ventures, Rush of Fools has become one of Christian music’s hottest new bands. In addition to the ASCAP nod, Rush Of Fools continues its #1 radio momentum on the CRW Inspirational chart this week as “Peace Be Still” holds the top spot for three consecutive weeks. With unprecedented success as one of Christian music’s top newcomers and a rapidly growing list of chart-topping singles, Rush Of Fools continues to maintain its solid position on Christian radio, as one of its top played artists. With a compelling artistry that embodies progressive worship, Rush Of Fools' evocative and engaging message of restoration and forgiveness has resonated deeply with today's passionate generation. The combination of relevant lyrics and distinct sound has contributed to the band’s growing fan base. Following on the heels of its amazing debut year success, the band is currently in the studio preparing for its highly-anticipated sophomore project, Wonder Of The World which is slated to release nationwide September 16, 2008. Produced by Scott Davis, Jason Ingram and Rusty Varenkamp, the sophomore effort is much like their debut release, filled with passionate lyrics and contemporary, hooky melodies. To support the upcoming album, Rush Of Fools will continue its aggressive national touring this fall with Big Daddy Weave (cities and dates to be announced at a later date). Rush Of Fools continues the Newsboys “GO” tour this month with multiple stops across the country. In addition, the band has been announced as part of the lineup for the 26th annual Night of Joy at Walt Disney World, coming this year to Disney's Hollywood Studios. John Michael Talbot Survives Big Fire
On April 29th, there was a terrible fire at Little Portion Hermitage in Arkansas, the home of noted Christian folk singer-songwriter John Michael Talbot and his community called the Brothers and Sisters of Charity. Praise God the fire did not reach the living quarters which are all a distance away from the main buildings, but it did destroy all the administrative offices, the beautiful chapel, the library, kitchen, storage areas, and all of the warehousing for Troubadour for the Lord, etc. Everything is gone. You may go to johnmichaeltalbot.com for further information. Typical of a person of unshakeable faith, John Michael said, "God has stripped us of unnecessary things." How would any of us cope if we lost everything all at once? Please pray for John Michael and his wife, Viola, and the entire community of the Brothers and Sisters of Charity to have strength as they settle into their new temporary lifestyle and begin the arduous task of rebuilding their surroundings. For those unfamaliar with John Michael Talbot's music, it's time you picked up at least his Greatest Hits album (available at amazon.com) or his Come To The Quiet. Talk about contemplative worship! This guy rules in that category. Ecclectic and beautiful to the max.

Saxon Shore Lands On TV
Saxon Shore lands publishing deal at home of Nirvana, Daniel Johnston. Band bombards nation’s TVs with tunes, heads back into studio with Flaming Lips producer Fridmann. “Dude, just minding my business watching American Idol and all the sudden I hear Saxon Shore and nearly fall off the couch.” So says a Saxon Shore fan on the band’s MySpace page. It’s a great example of the age in which we live -- one where as the record industry crumbles, a band that makes “instrumental music for people who don’t like instrumental music” can be heard by millions. Over the course of several albums and international tours, Matt Doty, leader of the Philadelphia based vocal-less group Saxon Shore, has been steadily building a fan base for his epic, uplifting brand of movies scores without movies. Now, Doty’s meticulously and lovingly created sounds -- let’s not forget that he is ably assisted by mega-talented Flaming Lips producer Dave Fridmann -- have begun to appear as a soundtrack of sorts, helping to move Dannon yogurt and Sony televisions via national television ads. Recently, next generation music publisher Primary Wave Music caught on, signing Saxon Shore to a publishing deal which will bring Doty’s music to even more of the public. The publishing home to Nirvana, Daniel Johnston and other notables is staffed by passionate music fans who quickly took to the enormity of Saxon Shore’s potential. And who doesn’t like yogurt and TV? Especially when their consumption is motivated by tunes like Saxon Shore’s “Marked With The Knowledge” (MP3). Download the track and check out the Sony advertisement via the company’s website HERE. Additionally, Doty’s work has also been picked up by the Sundance Film Festival, the Kentucky Derby, Major League Baseball, MTV, Toyota, Blue Cross, Nortel and Payless. And for anyone still living in the 90’s that may take umbrage with any of this, here are the facts: as the independent musician joins the corporate world in a way they may have never imagined, the careers of these true artists are allowed to survive and thrive. Case in point, Doty and Fridmann, who will reconvene for the recording of the fifth Saxon Shore record this spring. Now that these veterans have worn a good groove, this latest recording jag is sure to reveal the band’s finest moments to date. As evidenced by everyone from American Idol fans on MySpace to the band’s rabid followers in Asia -- more of the world is ready for the life affirming, mood enhancing, and sonically soaring music of Saxon Shore.
