Dustin Kensrue Donates 5% of His Proceeds
Continuing with his career-long history of charity and social work, Dustin Kensrue has chosen to donate 5% of his proceeds from Please Come Home to a non-profit organization called To Write Love on Her Arms. To Write Love on Her Arms is a nonprofit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for those struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. To Write Love on Her Arms began in March 2006 as a written story and an attempt to raise money for one girl's treatment. T-shirts were printed and a MySpace was created to serve as home base for the story. Excitement spread quickly throughout MySpace and the independent music community. For 2007, TWLOHA is aiming to raise $100k for treatment and recovery. This comes in addition to online counseling and continued efforts to creatively present hope and raise awareness. TWLOHA is a fitting choice for Please Come Home. The album lyrically exudes redemption, personal worth, love, acceptance, and hope. “I try to be an artist who aspires to find hope even in dark places: If I’m down, I don’t want to bring people down to that place with me. I’m looking for a way out, says Kensrue.”

Maria McKee Is Late This December
Maria McKee’s sixth solo record, Late December, a lush and majestic new studio album is set for release on April 24th, 2007 on Cooking Vinyl US. The album, which she co-produced with her husband, Jim Akin, basks with dramatic flair and the assimilated influences of countless artists ranging from Lou Reed, Joni Mitchell, David Bowie, Patti Smith and Jim Steinman.
“I suppose some people may be thrown aback by the new album, especially in light of the fact that maybe longtime fans felt they could breathe easier again after the last one,” explains McKee, referring to 2005’s Peddlin’ Dreams, a gentler, more rootsy album. “I like ‘Peddlin’ Dreams’. I’m proud of it. It is solid. But Late December is current for me. It is an album I love to listen to. It is music I like.”

Altarmotive On TV
Texas-based Christian rockers Altarmotive were featured on the CW Network's hit television series One Tree Hill this past Wednesday, March 28th. The song "Please Resolve This," included on the band's debut album What We Have Inside Us, was featured prominently within the episode playing almost in it's entirety. Altarmotive has gained tremendous notoriety on the indie scene, thanks in part to their high energy live performances, which have earned rave reviews from fellow artists Fusebox, Sparta and Vertical Horizon, who invited the band on stage in Altarmotive's hometown of El Paso for an impromptu performance of their hit single "Everything You Want." The band is currently finalizing a deal with a Nashville-based label and a late summer release is anticipated.

We are looking for people to submit designs for the artwork that are creative and capture the essence of "Day of Metal". It will also be necessary to design a logo for "Day of Metal", and we will also welcome artists to submit potential titles for the CD. Designs should have an extreme metal feel to them, and we would prefer if each band logo for the bands playing is present on the artwork in some way. The winner of the artwork contest will have his or her name on the CD as the artwork designer, will receive a copy of the compilation CD, and will also receive 1 copy of every release Bombworks Records puts out in 2007. JJ Heller A Top Pick For 2007
Independent singer/songwriter, JJ Heller has kicked off 2007 with a whirlwind of accolades for her recently released CD, Only Love Remains. Known by her rapidly growing legion of fans as a songwriter of gentle bravery who wraps her thought-provoking lyrics in quietly stirring melodies, Heller has recently been capturing the attention of music critics across the country. In their January/February 2007 issue, Performing Songwriter Magazine named her one of their "DIY Top 12 Picks" of independent singer/songwriters who have released an album without the backing of a label. Christian Musician Magazine has declared her to be "one of the great surprises of 2006," while Christian Music Suite 101 has proclaimed her among the "Top Ten Independent Artists of 2006." Such declarations of artistic excellence have become the norm for the soft-spoken Heller. Yet it is her passion for the message in her music that drives the West Coast native to perform before audiences of a few dozen at a quaint coffee shop to over 1,000 people at concerts and Sunday morning worship services. And it is that passionate message that will mark 2007 as a year to remember for JJ Heller.

RKT Signs High Flight Society
RKT Music recently announced the signing of Georgia-based, four-piece rock band High Flight Society, which will release its self-titled debut album June 5, 2007. Growing up together in Cedartown, Ga., High Flight Society formed while its members were still in high school. Guitarist Michael Packer, his brother, bass player John Packer, drummer Scotty Lockridge and frontman Jason Wilkes joined with producer Tony Palacios (Toby Mac, Audio Adrenaline) to create the stunning, anthemic modern rock sound found on the group’s national debut. Though the 22-year-old Wilkes surprisingly admits a love for all things Southern Gospel, High Flights musical influences come from more likely rock sources, bands like Kutless, Anberlin and Foo Fighters. "We feel that God has called us to be a light in the darkness," Wilkes noted. "We want to use our music to tell people about Jesus, people who might not hear the conventional way. We want to make music that could, because of its sound, easily make its way outside the walls of the church. There are so many songs out there portraying so many negative things. We want our music to be played alongside those songs, but we hope to send a positive message of hope and forgiveness to people who are hearing that message less and less."

Not Quite...But Almost
The Almost; the brainchild of Underoath drummer/vocalist Aaron Gillespie, will release their debut Southern Weather on April 3 through a first-ever joint venture with Tooth & Nail and Virgin Records. Gillespie, who sings and performs virtually every note and instrument on his solo debut, teamed with acclaimed producer Aaron Sprinkle (Pedro The Lion) for Southern Weather. The album kicks off with the percussion-driven first single "Say This Sooner," which just debuted this week on MTV2's "Unleashed." Album highlights include the alt-country inspired "Dirty And Left Out," which features a guest vocal collaboration with Sunny Day Real Estate singer Jeremy Enigk; the inventive Thursday-meets-Oasis vibe of "Everyone Here Smells Like A Rat;" and the breathtaking, undying roar of "I Mostly Copy Other People," which benefits from the bass and guest vocal work of The Starting Line's Kenny Vasoli. The Almost will join Say Anything and Saves The Day for a West Coast tour beginning in mid-April, to be followed by an East Coast trek in early May with Paramore (see dates below). Later this summer, the group will join the majority of the Vans Warped Tour. Michael Sweet Has A Message
Hello everyone. Once again I find myself needing to apologize for taking so long to write new information and updates for www.MichaelSweet.com. I've always been someone who strives to stay in touch with all of you and to keep communication open. I enjoy keeping you informed and it's a blessing to me continue doing so. It's part of what encourages me to do what I do - to be able to be there for you and in return, you've always been there for me. I can't thank you enough for that and your support has always touched me. More now than ever. As many of you may already know, my wife Kyle was taken to the ER in February due to pain in her lower abdomen. After an ultrasound and then a CT, a large mass was discovered and she was then transported to Boston and scheduled for surgery to have the mass removed as well as a complete hysterectomy. It was a surgery that should have been 2-3 hours and it wound up being over 5 hours long. We were learning more and more from day to day but still were not completely sure what we were dealing with. The words "suspicious" and "most likely" were being used often to describe the possibilities, so we were praying for a miracle and complete healing. On 2/27/07, a day Kyle and I will never forget, we were faced with the reality of what we were dealing with - ovarian cancer. Although we know that The Lord is, and always will be, by our side, it's been the most frightening time of our lives. Time stopped on 2/10/07 and the time that has passed since has been extremely blurry and uncertain. We met with the oncologist on 3/8/07 and went over the pathology reports to learn that it is in fact ovarian cancer and due to some very small formations in her lung that are "suspicious", the doctors are saying that it's stage 4. Kyle started her first round of chemotherapy on 3/14/07. It was a very long day due to the fact that they are administering two different drugs - one for the ovarian and one for the lung. The doctors don't want to take any chances so they are treating the lung at this time as well. Kyle will receive 6 treatments over a period of 4 months. My attorney said a prayer that I thought was amazing. He prayed that the Lord would allow the chemo to destroy the bad cells but not the good cells. For those of you who know me, I'm a firm believer in the fact that God can do anything and I will believe that till my last breath, so my prayer has also been that God would allow the bad cells to be destroyed but not the good cells. I'm also praying for complete healing and complete remission. God created Kyle so He can certainly heal her! I want to personally thank each and every one of you for praying for Kyle and for my family. We have seen and felt those prayers and it has been the biggest encouragement to our family and it has blessed our family tremendously. I can't express how deeply moved and touched we are by your love, care and support. We love you and thank you! Please continue to pray for Kyle's COMPLETE healing and COMPLETE remission, and for strength for us to get through this very difficult time. I trust The Lord and I know He has a plan and that His will is unfolding in our lives. We have grown to love Him more through this and to love each other more. Our relationship with The Lord and each other is stronger than ever. Amen!

Touring Will Never Be The Same
The first show of The Golden Sounds Internet Tour is now available online at the band's sites: here or here. It took place in a bathroom at 1303 Ashwood Ave. in Nashville TN. Just Todd with a keyboard, some loops, a guitar, and some Christmas lights. It is a little dark, but that is because the upstairs of the house isn't completed and they had to run an extension chord from the first floor because there was no electricity. Keep checking in to watch the progress of the tour. Also keep an ear out for the new album lo-fi sounds for a hi-fi heart which will be released soon.

Christafari Shake It To The Foundation
Mainstream reggae has never been more popular thanks to artists like Bob Marley, Sean Paul, and Matisyahu. Over a decade before Matisyahu introduced the world to his unique brand of Hasidic Reggae, Christafari was making waves with their original blend of Gospel Reggae. Through the years, these trailblazers have been crafting one of the most impressive catalogues in Christian music. In the fall of 2006, bandleader and founder Mark Mohr embarked on the next chapter of Christafari's career, creating their rootsiest effort to date with the upcoming CD To The Foundation. Recorded with all live instruments, plenty of horns and percussion and various guest vocalists (a veritable who's who of the Gospel Reggae arena), the album moves from roots reggae to lover's rock to dancehall and back again. Lyrically, this project is jam-packed with the unwavering Word of God. Christafari continues to display their dedication to utilizing sound doctrine and a host of Biblical references on every single song--ensuring that the Gospel is clearly proclaimed without compromise. "I don't strive to make a hit, but a classic," says Mohr. "When in the studio, I think 'How will this sound in ten or twenty years from now?' I want to record music that will endure for decades so that the message of Jesus Christ will continue to bear fruit for generations to come." To the Foundation will be released worldwide April 17th, 2007 by Lion of Zion Entertainment, the largest provider of gospel reggae and world music on the planet. For the latest information on Christafari, please visit the newly redesigned official website here.

Stay Awake For The Suffering
Newly signed Crosswalk Records recording artist, Awake The Suffering is hard at work recording material for their first national release. The 10 song concept album titled Inside the Mind We Die is an attempt to redefine the modern Christian metal scene. Awake the Suffering comes to the table with one of the most brutal sounds to ever be released in their perspective market. Grinding guitar work and guttural female vocals tear through the limits of today's trends. The band is quickly developing its reputation for their trademark breakneck sound. Inside the Mind We Die is tentatively set to be released on June 16th.

Rickie Lee Jones Falls Up
Rickie Lee Jones is in the midst of her nationwide headlining tour in over 25 major U.S. cities amid vast critical acclaim for her new album The Sermon on Exposition Boulevard, which debuted at #1 on eMusic, the world’s largest retailer of independent music and the world’s second-largest digital music retailer overall. While in New York City, the two-time Grammy Award winner performed the album’s first single “Falling Up” on the “Late Show With David Letterman.” This is a different and exciting album from Rickie, both sonically (it’s Velvet Underground-inspired) and lyrically. Its artful rock stylings are matched with songs that are all inspired by the real words and ideas of Jesus Christ. "People today can't even hear the name Jesus without tensing up because they don't want to be associated with the TV evangelists and that lot," says Rickie. “I just wanted to level the playing field a bit.” Fresh from belting it out at SXSW in Austin last week, she is back on the road with these remaining dates:

Whether she's singing about purpose, faith, fulfillment or enduring married love, there's a clear-eyed maturity and depth of artistry that lifts her into an exclusive class.

Revolution On Canvas Part Two
How do you follow-up a wickedly successful debut book of poetry from some of the biggest names in the post-hardcore/indie rock world, without losing your edge or finesse, and more importantly, your cred? You can't, unless you plan on surpassing your previous concept with a second volume, promising bigger, better, and more powerful works from some of the visionaries that populate the youth-dominated music scene. And ready for the challenge, Rich Balling (Rx Bandits, The Sounds of Animals Fighting, Cowboy Communist) has compiled Revolution on Canvas, Volume 2: Poetry from the Indie Music Scene which will be released through Warner Books in conjunction with Ad Astra Books on May 9, 2007. In the unfiltered spirit of Ginsberg and Bukowski but with a more vibrant and youthful buoyancy, these poems and stories of Revolution on Canvas, Volume 2 continue to reclaim the power of the verse for today's kids. Who better to show them the guiding power and spirit of the pen than the artists who most inspire them? Look for contributions from Brandon Rike of Dead Poetic, and He Is Legend's Schuylar Croom.

Two Empty Chairs Appear On Tonecrash
Music Industry veteran, Barry Blair, announces the launch of Tonecrash Records, a ministry focused label with the goal of developing and building young independent artists. With 16 years of history in the Christian music industry, Blair has won Dove Awards, received Grammy nominations and has worn the hat of artist, producer, and songwriter. As a founding member of the band Audio Adrenaline, Blair performed on and co-wrote many of the band’s early radio singles, including “Big House.“ Tonecrash Records seemed to be the next step in my career after working with so many great independent bands in the last few years,” explains Blair. “I really felt that I have a good sense of what was going on in the independent world of Christian music and could help a few bands to further their ministry. Through Tonecrash, artists will gain access to retail distribution channels and receive radio promotion and other marketing to increase awareness of their music within and outside the Christian community.” The label's first signing is Two Empty Chairs, a rock foursome from Smackover, Arkansas. The band’s national debut, Brighter Day, will be available April 3rd.

Victory Records recently announced the signing of Albany, Georgia’s With Blood Comes Cleansing. “With Blood Comes Cleansing is looking forward to touring as much as possible and delivering a brutal yet positive message to the scene. We would like to share what Christ has done for us through our music,” said the band. “We are excited about joining the Victory team. We feel that they believe in our music and will push us to a market that we were previously unable to reach. It is an honor to be a part of a label with such great accomplishments and an outstanding roster,” says guitarist Jeremy Sims. Victory owner Tony Brummel said, “Six of us from the label saw the band play on February 12. We were all sold after the first song. The intensity of their music coupled with their captivating stage presence was riveting to say the least. I did not know that they were a Christian band until after they had played. I have tremendous respect and admiration for all artists that stand behind their message and faith. Music should always be about putting the music and message first. Sales should be an after thought. The Crime Is Totally Classic
Tooth & Nail recording artists, The Classic Crime, have been building a major underground buzz on the strength of their debut album Albatross and they're ready to make it even louder with a national tour together with A Change of Pace and Quietdrive. The band has already proven their popularity with first week scans reaching 3,700 copies, making The Classic Crime the #1 Best Selling Debut for a Tooth & Nail artist in the label’s history. With streaming plays on Purevolume.com over 1.1million, The Classic Crime cemented their reputation to the masses last year on the sold out 2006 Tooth & Nail Tour and their fall tour with A Static Lullaby, I Am Ghost and So They Say. Having played together since high school where they searched for a medium between their parents favorite music like Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, but playing close attention to their surroundings including the likes of Pearl Jam and Gatsby's American Dream, The Classic Crime have developed their own style best described as a new take on old rock 'n' roll. Partnering with producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette (Iggy Pop, Chevelle, Cold) in the studio couldn't have worked out any better for The Classic Crime to embrace all of their different influences and fuse them all into Albatross.

Mat Kearney
Inpop/Aware Records singer-songwriter Mat Kearney received three prestigious Dove Award nominations including Male Vocalist of the Year, Pop/Contemporary Album for his 2006 release Nothing Left to Lose, and Song of the Year for the record’s title track. “We are extremely proud of Mat and his achievements,” comments Dale Bray, Inpop Records’ president. “It’s been a breakthrough year for Mat, and we are grateful that the GMA members have recognized his amazing accomplishments. To be nominated in these categories is a huge honor.” Kearney sprung onto the music scene in October 2004 with Bullet, his first national release and label debut on Inpop Records. The record won him a Dove Award for New Artist of the Year. Kearney, who has spent the majority of the year touring with John Mayer, Sheryl Crow and The Fray, first launched his career with a successful tour alongside label mates Shane & Shane, followed by alternative rockers Graham Colton Band, and a co-headlining tour with Warner Bros/Teleprompt artist MuteMath. Later this spring he headlines the VH1 “You Oughta Know” tour.

Third Day
Rock band Third Day received another handful of nods, including one in the prestigious Artist of the Year category. The Atlanta-based rock band was also recognized in the Song of the Year category. In the newly added Dove category of Christmas Album, Third Day was acknowledged with a nod for Christmas Offerings, its very first Christmas worship album.
2007 finds Third Day releasing two milestone projects, Chronology, Volume One (1996-2000) which drops March 27, followed by Chronology, Volume Two which hits retail, August 7.

news familyforce5.JPG
Family Force 5
As the Family Force 5 “crunk-rock” phenomenon continues to build, the band has been recognized yet again, this time with a Dove Award nomination for “Rock Album of the Year” for their debut release Business Up Front, Party In The Back.
Gotee will release the Business Up Front, Party In The Back: Diamond Edition on March 20th, with three new songs and expanded packaging added to the original album. The band is currently on tour with Disciple before heading out with Tobymac for dates throughout March and April, and major festival dates throughout the summer. Family Force 5 is a stand-out fan favorite with their live show as Tic Long, President of Events for Youth Specialties notes, “They bring the party, but more that that they are rock solid believers who want to make an impact on culture.”

Krystal Meyers
18-year old Krystal Meyers garnered a Dove Award nomination earlier this week in the category of Female Vocalist of the Year. Only one year ago, Meyers received two Dove Award nominations in the categories of New Artist of the Year and a second nomination for her contribution to the Come Let Us Adore Him project, in the Special Event Album category. After learning of the nomination, Meyers commented, “To be nominated in the Female Vocalist of the Year category truly is an honor. I’m so excited to even be included in the same list with fellow-artists such as these. I am looking forward to the awards show!”
Krystal Meyers will be on tour with Superchick, as part of the “Generation Rising Tour”, during April and May of 2007.

news leeland2.JPG
Leeland
Progressive rock band Leeland received five Dove Award nominations including New Artist of the Year and Rock/Contemporary Recorded Song for "Sound of Melodies." According to Leeland frontman, Leeland Mooring, “When I heard we were nominated for five categories, I thought someone was playing a joke on us. We are so honored to be nominated with so many artists that we have grown up listening to and respect. This is very surreal.” Sound of Melodies, the Dove and GRAMMY-nominated, 11-track debut from Leeland was produced by Matt Bronleewe, Marc Byrd and Steve Hindalong. According to Leeland Mooring, “Whenever we play, our main goal is to be able to minister to our generation.” Leeland will play 17 festivals during the summer of 2007. For all concert dates and further information, visit leelandonline.com.

Jars Of Clay
Jars of Clay received six nods, returning to the front of the pack of leading nod-getters. Having received the second most number of nominations of any artist, this Nashville-based rock band is up for the prestigious Artist of the Year and Group of the Year awards. The band is also being recognized for its most recent release, with the critically-acclaimed Good Monsters receiving a nod in the Rock/Contemporary Album category, and two songs from the project garnering specific mention. Jars of Clay’s sixth nomination is for the video for “Work,” nominated in the Short Form Music Video category. With Good Monsters, the band set out to capture its communal experiences and have a bit of fun with the process. The result is an outstanding collection of tunes that are engaging upon first listen, and increasingly captivating with each additional spin: rock hits, without sacrificing the intelligence and depth of Dan Haseltine’s poetic lyrical genius. Jars of Clay is currently in the midst of an ambitious spring schedule of shows throughout the United States and Canada.

news red.JPG
Red
Modern rock band Red can add three Dove Award nominations to its growing list of accolades. Nominations in the categories Rock Album, Rock Recorded Song, and Short Form Music Video. Red guitarist, Anthony Armstrong, comments on the nominations, “We could not be more excited that we received three Dove Award nominations. We have dreamed of this moment ever since we were going to Christian festivals as teenagers – and for it to be here for us, truly is a dream come true. We are very thankful for this opportunity.” Since the June 6, 2006 release of its debut album, End of Silence, Red has toured non-stop. With currently more than 55,000 fans on MySpace Red makes it a priority to write each and every fan back personally and let them know how much their support is appreciated. During March and April 2007, Red will be on tour with Sevendust.

With Haste...With Haste!
Haste The Day is set to release their third album, Pressure The Hinges on March 20th on Solid State Records. Production duties were commanded by acclaimed producer GGGarth (Rage Against The Machine, Chevelle), and the uncompromising and intense Pressure The Hinges builds dramatically upon the success of previous efforts Burning Bridges and When Everything Falls Apart which sold over 100,000 copies combined nationwide. Drummer Devin Chaulk offered “Pressure The Hinges is a more diverse and mature record than anything Haste The Day has released to date. It's heavier and yet it's more melodic. It's more brutal and at the same time, more beautiful. We've broadened the spectrum of sound on this record. We took the elements of Haste The Day that people have embraced, which are heaviness and melody, and stepped them up a notch. We've never been so proud and we can't wait to unleash it on our fans, and introduce it to those who haven't heard us before. We're stoked, and we think others will be too.” In addition to the single disc album release, a Deluxe Version of the album will be available, including 3 bonus tracks as well as a bonus DVD disc including 2 live shows, former vocalist Jimmy Ryan’s final performance with the band, 3 past music videos, behind the scenes studio footage and a plethora of bonus materials. Known for their dynamic, aggressive and fiery live performances, Haste The Day has become absolute road dogs, performing roughly 300 dates a year. The band has also become favorites on MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball. The band will be hitting the road co-headlining with From Autumn To Ashes starting March 6th in Buffalo, NY.
