Crowder Nabs Top Honors
sixstepsrecords/Sparrow Records’ David Crowder Band has been selected as MSN’s Artist of the Year 2006. After being named July 2006’s Artist of the Month, the band was nominated alongside INXS, Prince, Christina Aguilera and Kenny Chesney for Artist of the Year. After leading on Dec. 21 with 77% of the more than 270,000 votes, the final tally gave the David Crowder Band the deciding vote as MSN noted, “They've single-handedly redefined what contemporary Christian music should sound like…and earned your vote for 2006's Artist of the Year.” During the voting period, MSN also lauded David Crowder Band, saying, “While Crowder is unafraid to make direct and straightforward pledges to his savior, he seems extremely restless creatively and tries his hand at any style that suits him. Even Crowder's fans in the Christian music community had to be blown away by the album A Collision or (3+4=7), a literate, pensive and complicated album about death. It won the Dove Award for Best Rock Album, and has even secular fans wondering what’s up next.”

Trans-Siberian Orchestra Totally Rules
As the 2006 winter season came to a close, musical phenomenon Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) capped off their 8th annual concert tour and most successful year to date. In an outstanding feat, TSO rocked more than 1 million people making their 2006 Winter Tour one of the Top 10 attended tours in North America (according to Pollstar). TSO went into overdrive in order to accommodate the demand from fans for tickets, the band played 118 shows this tour alone, bringing the total to over 2 million people who have seen them in just the past three years. TSO, with its timeless message and powerful live show, has become a tradition amongst families and music lovers. Just days in to the New Year, TSO is already looking forward to 2007. The group is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their long awaited rock opera “Night Castle.” With fans already calling this one of the most exciting bands on the road today, TSO is exploring how to push the concert envelope even further in 2007.

Once Nothing Is Now Something
CI Records is excited to announce the latest addition to its ever-expanding family, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania's Once Nothing.
Following a lineup shuffle in 2005, the Steel City's hardest working band became galvanized under a banner of working hard to succeed big. The band - vocalist Todd Lowry, guitarists David Burkes and Josh Branas, bassist Steve Lucarelli and drummer Giuseppe Capolupo - struck an immediate chord with their self-described "blue-collar metal," embodying that descripton perfectly by proceeding to play 200 shows last year alone. As these road warriors prepare to take a break in order to record their CI Records debut, Lowry becomes slightly more introspective, "We try to give people the best possible songs that we can," he explains. "By combining the best elements of metal and rock and roll along with the occasional breakdown, we aim to make an album that will make people want to pump their fists in the air and celebrate being alive!"
Expect their CI Records debut in stores June 2007.

Pillar Supports Invisible Children
Pillar has announced dates for the second leg of its Days of the Reckoning Tour, presented by Invisible Children, set to kick off Saturday, January 28 in Houston, Tex. Joining Pillar on the tour will be Showbread, Tyler Reed, and a local band at each show. Concert-goers will view a brief version of the film Invisible Children: Rough Cut, and can expect four great bands along with some unique mix-ups and special guests. Rob Beckley, lead vocalist of Pillar, looks forward to the Days of the Reckoning Tour continuing, “We want to thank each and every person that came out and supported us during the fall of 2006. It was a great time of reconnecting and meeting new people and we can’t wait to get back out as the tour goes on. We have wanted to play with Showbread for quite a while; their live show is simply amazing. Additionally, we wanted to get Tyler Reed on the way up. I think they are going to be huge and are definitely a band to watch in 2007. After a decade of touring and playing shows, we know how hard it is to get your start, especially as a rock band. So, with this tour, we want to give exposure to some local bands we have met or heard about during our travels.”
Beckley continues by sharing the band’s heart for Invisible Children, Invisible Children: Rough Cut is a really special film and we want to help bring as much attention and support to it as we can. The first time I saw it I was moved to tears, and we have been trying to organize something to do to support these guys ever since. One of the really cool things is these are young men and women telling the story of other young men and women. Kids all over the country are being inspired that they can play an active role in making their world a better place. Invisible Children is a non-profit organization that is changing culture, policy, and lives through collisions of power and poverty. The non-profit began in 2005 after an overwhelming response to Invisible Children: Rough Cut, a film made by three young filmmakers from San Diego. The film documents a war in Northern Uganda where children are abducted by a rebel army and forced to fight as child soldiers. Invisible Children is committed to creating sustainable peace in the war-torn area of Northern Uganda through their extensive programs on the ground. Currently, more than 175 people are employed and 450 students are in school with a mentor, with hopes to expand into the thousands.

Let's Go For A Walk
On March 20, 2007, Badman Recording Co. will release We Wallked In Song, the ninth studio recording from the Lancaster, PA-based trio, The Innocence Mission. The band formed in 1988 and centered around the husband-and-wife songwriting
team of Don and Karen Peris. They released three highly acclaimed records on A&M, one on RCA and developed a devoted following. They also contributed to recordings by Natalie Merchant, Emmylou Harris, and 16 Horsepower. Their music was featured on the soundtrack for Empire Records and on the popular TV show Party of Five. In 2004 they released Now The Day Is Over, a collection of recordings for children which was praised by NPR, Parent Magazine, Performing Songwriter and more. Their last release of original material, Befriended, received 5 stars in MOJO and was chosen by NPR as a "Top 10 Albums Of the Year for 2003." We Walked in Song is already being hailed as one of their strongest works, though for songwriter Karen Peris there was great personal loss in the beginning stages of creating the album. Badman's Dylan Magierek explains, "Sometime after the passing of her father, Karen began to write as a way of coping with this great loss, which was compounded with the loss of her mother. The result is some of the most beautiful and heartfelt material I have heard from the band." The band plans on touring the East Coast in the spring of 2007.

Randolph Benefits Firefighters And The NHL
Robert Randolph & The Family Band, led by the incomparable pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph, followed-up the release of their 2003 Grammy-nominated debut Unclassified with the fall 2006 release of Colorblind. Colorblind is a soulful mix of gospel, R&B, country, rock & blues inspired by Randolph’s deep rooted Church of God musical background. Having grown up playing in the “sacred steel” tradition of the House of God church in the urban setting of Orange, New Jersey, Randolph launched onto the music scene with the ability to redefine the sonic possibilities of his instrument and rightfully gained the world’s attention. The release of Colorblind brought Robert into the sports spotlight as ABC and ESPN chose Robert Randolph & The Family Band as their Saturday Night Primetime College Football musical guest. Every other Saturday night for the entire college season, you will see Randolph and his band playing their hit single “Thrill Of It” at the start of the show, from the Pontiac Stage in New York City’s Times Square. Watch for Randolph to headline The Leary Firefighters Foundation benefit concert in Dallas, TX on January 21 before their opening performance for the 55th annual NHL All-Star Game on January 24.

Marcos re-joining P.O.D.
"My first reaction upon hearing the news," states HM Editor DVP, "after the disbelief and mistrust of the first source that the news came to me, of course - was that it didn't surprise me. I immediately thought of some of the comments Sonny made in our P.O.D. cover story (Jan/Feb 2006 Issue #117): 'Just yesterday at the studio, Wuv popped in the Live At Tomfest disc and it was just so raw and so dirty, ya know? But it was just like, whenever you think of those moments, you think of all the times with Marcos. It definitely is heart-breaking. One of the things when listening to that, even Jason said, 'Man, Marcos, he should still be here, ya know?' Think about it: here was Sonny doing an interview for the band's new album, Testify, and he's talking about Marcos and sharing a statement like that. I could almost see this coming." Did anyone else notice that? The band played a New Year's Eve gig in New York City and have signed a new deal and are working on a new album. Catch up on some amazing things and read Jason Truby's letter to fans at payableondeath.com

And here's the previous week's worth of news:

Brock Gill Takes On The Track
Illusionist Brock Gill recently competed in his first ever dirt bike race at Xtreme World Arenacross in Batesville, MS, winning two races and taking home the first place trophy. Though a practice run the day of the race left Brock with a broken bike, he was able to borrow a Honda CRF-450 from a friend to ride and win the races becoming the Arenacross series points leader. Riding since he was 13, Brock Gill also takes his skill to the stage incorporating his riding skills with his illusions. Currently, Brock is using two dirt bike stunts on his tour: “The Blind Ride,” where he rides blindfolded through the aisles of the audience while popping wheelies and jumping with the motorcycle off the stage, and “Moto Transpo,” where he is chained up inside a paper box and miraculously changes places with another rider that blasts through the paper box on his bike. Brock is also perfecting two new dirt bike stunts to be featured in an upcoming DVD. Brock, who acted as lead investigator for Discovery Channel’s The Miracles of Jesus TV special that originally broadcast during the Christmas 2005 season, has shared the stage with many well known speakers, leaders and artists, including: Franklin Graham, Andy Stanley, John Piper, Kirk Cameron, Luis Palau, Christian Hosoi (legendary skateboard champion), Corey Martinez (BMX rider from X Games 1004-5), David Nasser, Casting Crowns, Relient K, Sonic Flood, Toby Mac, Audio Adrenaline, Third Day, Pillar and others. He has performed for such organizations as BigStuf Camps, Student Life, In Quest, and on tours such as Winter Jam, Livin’ It with Stephen Baldwin and Christ in Youth’s Believe tour. Brock Gill’s touring also includes The Freedom Experience (a three-day student outreach event), special one-day outreach events, and events at various camps, conferences, crusades, festivals and other evangelistic outreaches. Seven System Has Disbanded
After more than six years since its origin, three albums and two #1 Loud Chart Singles, Seven System is throwing in the towel. The band comments: "There are many reasons for this decision, and there are even more lessons to be learned from all of this. One thing we want to let you all know is that in no way are we breaking up because of division or arguments. We all remain friends and love one another like family. The disbanding of Seven System is something God has put on the heart of every member involved. One of the main reasons for this decision is that we feel in chasing "the dream", we had gotten away from the original ministry God had laid upon our hearts some six years ago. God has asked us to make a choice, and the choice was clear. The awesome thing is that even in spite of our shortcomings, God still used the message in our music. It is our hope that our lesson could also be a lesson to anyone who reads this. First we want to thank God for the opportunity to be a part of this ministry. We also want to thank all the people that have made this experience what it has been, all of the people we have met along the way, everyone that has supported us, everyone that has worked hard to make Seven System's message be heard. Seven System will be doing a farewell show in Southern California this May, This will be our last show ever." Keep an eye on sevensystemmusic.com to see where God leads the members of Seven System next.

Prayers For Liberty N Justice
This news from Liberty N Justice: Justin from Liberty n Justice was in a bad auto accident in December. There were three guys in the car (Justin and two friends) and it was totaled. Justin received 8 staples in his head and got glass in his right eye. He will be fine; he is just really sore and really in pain. Any prayers would be appreciated.

More Prayers Requested
J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines, Channels) and his wife Janet Morgana's baby boy Cal was born with a serious genetic condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Though there is no cure for this condition, there are lots of treatments that promise to give Cal the best possible quality of life. Unfortunately, many of these, especially the alternative treatments, are not covered by health insurance. J. and Janet have given so much over the years to the music community we're
all a part of. Kim Coletta and Bill Barbot of DeSoto Records are hoping you can help them out now. They have set up a website with more information and a place to make a donation. All of the money will go straight to J. and Janet to help defray
their growing medical bills. View it here. Thanks for your support.

Toby Mac Goes Portable
As he prepares to launch his third solo project, Portable Sounds on February 20, one of the most successful artists in Christian music history, TobyMac celebrated the RIAA Gold certification of his first two solo endeavors, Momentum (2001) and Welcome to Diverse City (2004) at BMI in Nashville last month. Thanking the team around him including management, record company personnel, his band and more, he left his biggest salute to his wife of 14 years, Amanda, commenting, “All of this is impossible without you.”

news tobygold.JPG
“Working with TobyMac is always an incredible pleasure for all of us at Forefront Records/EMI CMG,” remarked Peter York, President of EMI CMG Label Group. “He consistently delivers culturally relevant songs that challenge us with compelling lyrics and haunt us with contagious musical hooks. Like his previous gold selling records, TobyMac’s new project “Portable Sounds” has all of those same elements only I believe it is destined for even greater success. We look forward to introducing this record to the public and feel honored to work with an artist of Toby’s caliber.” A new lyrical flavor has developed on a few of the album's tracks. “I wanted to write a few songs that would be like prayers,” TobyMac adds. “There have been a few prayers that I have been very consistent with over the years; like ‘Help me to remember what this is all about.’ I really believe that this record can touch peoples lives....not because of me, but because God is breathing through me on this project – that was my prayer every day in the studio.” The resulting album is the most dynamically diverse collection of TobyMac songs yet. Watch for a headline tour beginning March 8th featuring Thousand Foot Krutch, Building 429 and Family Force 5.

Things Are Looking Rosie
These Friends of Mine is the fourth release from artist Rosie Thomas and collaboration with friend Sufjan Stevens. Possessing a homespun familiarity, many of the songs on These Friends of Mine are characteristic of Rosie’s other work, with her fragile falsetto lilting over sparse piano arrangements, like on “Kite,” a hushed, near-lullaby that attempts to find the supernatural in simplicity. Everyday Sunday Makes A Move
Ohio-based modern rock band Everyday Sunday recently announced it has signed with Newsboys’ label Inpop Records. The band will release its Inpop debut, Wake Up! Wake Up! May 22. Comprised of Trey Pearson (lead vocals), Jesse Counts (guitar), Dan Hunter (bass) and Chris Hines (drums), Everyday Sunday hails from Columbus, Ohio. Attracting a national audience with its 2001 independent CHR single, “Just a Story,” Everyday Sunday joined Flicker Records’ roster in 2002. The band released two successful projects with Flicker, Stand Up and Anthems for the Imperfect. “We could not be more excited to sign with Inpop Records,” comments Trey Pearson. “Inpop is bigger than ever before, and they have genius people working over there who are extremely driven to make this record blow up. We have made the record of our dreams; we really feel like we have found ourselves with this album. It’s by far the best thing we have ever done. It’s been totally God seeing how all of this has happened, and we are extremely stoked to sign with Inpop as we take things to the next level.”
“The guys in Everyday Sunday are motivated and passionate about their music and ministry, and we are honored to be partnering with them,” says Dale Bray, president of Inpop Records. “Ian and the band have produced a brilliant record: the production is world class, the songwriting has true artistic merit and the band’s performance is exceptional. It’s a record that stands on its own. Everyday Sunday is a great addition to Inpop’s high quality artist roster.” Produced by Ian Eskelin (Krystal Meyers, Stellar Kart, All Star United), Wake Up! Wake Up! delivers the same diversity and solid pop sound that has come to define Everyday Sunday’s music. The album’s first singles, “Find Me Tonight” at CHR and “Wake Up! Wake Up!” at Rock will be released to radio Jan. 19.
