Dear Ephesus: Return
When emo seemed like a new concept – back in the previous millenium – there were a handful of bands that seemed to get it right the first time (Brandtson, Appleseed Cast, and Dear Ephesus). It was with great shock and sadness when they called it a day back in 1999. Since then many a rising new band has cited DE as a definite influence. While this has not gone unnoticed by the former members, there was never a serious thought towards reforming the band. Thanks to the prodding and help of Jeff Adams, who worked for the infamous Jeff Hanson Management team (Creed, Alter Bridge), Dear Ephesus will record an EP this fall.
To get the lowdown on this, we contacted the band. Here is the Q&A interview:
Why did you guys get back together?
Right now we're entertaining the idea of getting together
for the sake of old times, friendship and chemistry.
The reunion is still in the works
Whose idea was it and how did it happen?
Seems like it's an idea that has gone through almost all
our minds. We either all live in the same town or stay in
touch so the subject eventually came up. I think Lu
mentioned it to Jeff, then Jeff to me, then Lu to me,
then Jeff to Aaron, etc.
What songs will be recorded? (all old, some old, all new?)
Whatever's recorded will be all new.
What will it sound like?
Like an older, wiser, better Dear Ephesus
What has each member been up to since the end of it?
Aaron's been involved in a several promising film and
music projects; Louis is doing great with The Kick,
touring with Blindside, Squad, and opening slots with
The Ataris among others; Jeff's played drums for a lot
of people; Brett had Tenderfoot for a while and now he's
studying electrical engineering; I (Ed) have been playing
with my band, The Sweetkisses for about a year and
other studio works on the side.

Wow! I just hung my autographed Dear Ephesus photo above the computer a few weeks ago, and stumbled across this article. This is great! Here's to hoping they tour...
I just found their Abscence Sounds of Me CD on Ebay for 1.99 + 2.00shipping, after mine got sat on I haven't been able to find another...just found it on ebay and I am going to get it quick!!! I can't wait to hear the new Dear Ephesus they are definately the best emo band of all time!!!

I have been dreaming about this day for years and now it is coming true. I seriously hope you guys are going to play some shows. I will drive to florida from chocago if I have to to see Dear Ephisus.

I was listening to Absent Sounds of Me this morning and thinking what a shame it was the band was no more and there weren't more bands like Dear Ephesus around. I googled the band about 10 minutes ago and found this article.... I am in complete awe and want to scream with raw joy... man, Dear Ephesus back together to produce a new EP - I hope they do shows because I will definitely be there!!!
WOW!!!! If it wasn't for absent sounds, I'd still be listening to Carman! Cannot wait for this.
