Christian Hosoi

The innovator of the "Christ Air" extended rail-grab trick went to jail; and then into the arms of Jesus. Check out the personal interview that Wherehouse concert promoter Tim Hudson (whose dayjob is that of newspaper journalist) did with heralded pro skater, Christian Hosoi.
What's the way that you've noticed Christ moving in your life the most lately?
I just have a relationship with him and built on my relationship with him and through that relationship I'm just feeling the Holy Spirit lead. And wanting to love on god wanting to please him in life an opportunity to glorify his name and lift him up as a big banner to everyone that sees me and knows me to just always have my conversations seasoned with salt and always having the conviction through the Holy Spirit that Jesus is so real. The bible says that our spirit testifies with his spirit and being that I went through a huge circumstance that I went to prison, my relationship was built on contingency, I was fully surrendered and I gave my life over and I said you know what I want to know you through that whole time I built a relationship and now that I'm here outside with my family and feeling the world around me and being involved with the normal things of life I just still feel God's presence in my life I just want to build up his kingdom.
How do you feel that you've been blessed on a daily basis? I'm sure that being out of jail there's all kinds of little stuff.
He's blessed me with my wife, who stuck by my side through the entire four and a half years that I was in prison. And we built a relationship with Jesus Christ through that. And through I felt the mercy and compassion not only from God but through my wife and how we survived through it and made it through knowing that God has a perfect plan.
I'm sure there were times when you were inside that seemed kind of dark and hard, was there any stories that stick out where you had to dig deep and look to God maybe you were feeling alone and God helps you through.
It starts right off I mean why me what did I do when I first went in I had to finally realize you know Romans 8:28 says and we know that all things work together for good to them who work for God. I had to work on that verse for a good couple of years until I understood what it meant. When James would say count it all joy when you fall into various trials and temptations those verses were hard to handle at first. When you realize and God gives you the wisdom and discernment to understand those things when you go through things as hard as being separated from your family and being in a prison for the amount of years that I spent away. You actually know that he is. like Romans 8:28 says and we know that all things work together for good.
So Paul's talking to Christians, and he was saying it directly to a Christian as I built my faith and my foundation with Christ and put my feel upon the rock and I acknowledged him in all my ways and leaned not upon my own understanding as Proverbs 3 5 and 6 say I can finally say that this is all working all for good. What I'm going through that all things happen for a reason the peace and joy comes in knowing that there is something to be learned from all this. Something to get out of this there is something that this is going to season me for a future time that I can hopefully be a light to a person that is going through the same issues or the same circumstances or the same problems or whatever it is that people go through so that we can be a light in a dark world.
Going back a little bit what are your memories of the 80s when skating was in its heyday and everything was clicking and you were peaking.
It's funny because everyone nicknamed me Christ and I invented the Christ air. What sticks out is that I didn't have a relationship with Jesus Christ and I never read a Bible in my life until I finally got arrested. The things that stick out the most now was that I thought I earned it all. I thought I worked hard to get what I deserved and was a man that was thankful for people that praised me and the fans that I had and the popularity that I had I was thankful for that to the people but not to God. And that really sticks out to me that I now I'm grateful and thankful where back then I thought I earned it and I was pleasing men rather than pleasing God.
What do you think of fame in hindsight?
Um.I give all praise to my God for all the accomplishments that I've made because I know that he gave me all of my gifts and talents for everything that I've ever gotten. I would say that this is my opportunity that God gives us as a platform to be able to spread his word and his love and the gospel of JESUS CHRIST and why we have a passion to go out and be fishers of me and want to go and evangelize and be a mister of the word of God and be a light and let our lives speak of this wonderful blessed hope that is in JESUS CHRIST and through him and him alone.
You're pretty much known for doing high airs with great styles did that come naturally to you.
Back in the day when we were skating the skate parks it was all surf related and it was style where it was aggressive skating slash grinding laybacks and long rock wall slides and high airs and that was just what we desired to do. My idols were like Bruce Lee and stuff like that so when I would think of his performance and how he would do things it was always just a step higher and that's what I wanted to do with my skating and taking it to another level. Being a young age being 11, 12 years old wanting to do that and just have fun at the same time. It was my desire and passion and love for what I did not only because I wanted to be the best but because I loved what I did, it just made it a natural thing that happened.
