Bradley Hathaway : Q&A
When attending the Cornerstone Festival this summer, it wasn’t too hard to recognize that something new was up. Slam poets were turning up and tearing it down. Our Sep/Oct issue’s “Hard News” section features four poets that were at Cstone. We decided to get a few words from a shining standout named Bradley Hathaway, who is currently on the road with Blindside and mewithoutYou. Check it out:
What's your reason for starting this?
It's just sorta happened out of nowhere. i saw a poet in november of 2002 and thought it was rad. two months later coming home from church i got an idea for a poem, pulled over and wrote it down. before that i'd not written poetry, didn't read poetry, never planned on doing anything with it. it literally just came out of nowhere for me. so i bought a notebook and two weeks later i started reading. it felt good. it felt right. it felt true. like i was born to do it. to this day and back then i do it...
[LIST OF REASONS : the “TO’s”]:
to present the Christian message to those that have never heard it.
to tell the world of the healing and completion that only God can bring.
to challenge both Christians and nonChristians.
to inpsire others to live their passion.
to make people feel better (as saul did after david played him the harp).
to be used by God.
to bring hope.
to present truth in a relevant way.
to bring glory to my Lord.
to make people think.
to let every person know they have purpose and meaning.
to heal the lame, cure the sick, bring sight to the blind, and raise the dead.
to call Christians to a deeper, more disciplined, more committed walk with the Lord.
to proclaim the death and resurrection of Jesus and what that means for humanity.
to be real...like johnny cash, rich mullins, or keith green was.
to proclaim from the rooftops what i have heard in secret.
to prepare the way for the coming of the Lord.
to speak to the ones who have ears to hear.
to have fun. not for money, not for chicks, not for fame.

not to be shocking
and not to be irreverent, but to hear "good job my faithful servant" when it's all said and done.
unfortunately, too often i find myself doing it for my own glory...so i long for the day when i'm made new forever and don't have to bother with pride.
What do you have available (or will when this comes out in late august)?
right now i have a cd/book available entitled "all the hits so far but don’t expect too much." this version will be limited to only around 400. by september it will only be available in cd format with a carboard layout and illustrations. the poems for this record will be available in print sometime within the next year courtesy of some publisher but that's not to be determined just yet. it will have illustrations, as well as me expounding on each of the poems with other random stuff throughout. but who knows.

thanks alot doug...i just spent the last couple days in nashville meeting alot of "industry" people and whatnot...it was pretty neat man. i feel like joseph only no one has tried to kill me and i've not been put in a dungeon or anything...but see the Lord bringing me up and using me for His glory. it is wonderful...and next year is just going to be crazy from what it seems. after australia in january i'm going to be on some pretty big tours/festivals. but we will see. i'm not signing anything for the next few months because i'm in no hurry and think after the blindside tour i'll have more interest ya know.

I just wanted to say he is a brilliant poet, and his words can make you rethink the way you look at christ , and at life. Very insparational guy.
I miss Bradley, but I am so proud of him I could explode. God has always worked through him and he had many a day going unnoticed. Now HM magazine has an article about him? Sheesh. I am really thankful for some one presenting the truth in such a real and interesting way.

Bradley is a really great guy. He's so talented and has such a heart for God. And he's really nice. I have enjoyed seeing him perform twice.
I just saw Bradley perform in Fayetteville, AR last night and I must say that I find it hard to believe that he is currently without girlfriend!!! He without a doubt had the attention of me and every other girl in that crowded, sweaty venue!!! A visibly unconditional love for God is probably the most attractive characteristic any guy could possess!!! Good Luck Bradley!!! Much love and acceptance!!!
Bradley's one in a million. When he enters the room, he goes unnoticed, just another random person, until he opens his mouth. He then inspires and encourages anyone who will listen. You are truly an inspiration to believers, and nonbelievers Brad. Your passion for Him is so evident in your talent, and I can't wait to see you again. This guy will rattle your cage and challenge your walk with God. I was inspired in a bone rattling way by Bradley and the call that God has placed on his life. He rocks and I can't wait to see what God has instore for him. Bradley - My hat is off to you.
