A Christian Rock Concert Review
BETTER OFF ROCKED TOUR

A suicide prevention organization sponsored the night of Christian rock in a club. Four bands were promised but Steven Speaks didn't show so first up was Nevertheless. Starting with fist pumping anthems, the bottom heavy chunk of the guitars was offset by the lead singers high, clear vocals. they seem like a thousand other bands I've heard but the songwriting is still good.
Toward the end of the set the sounds became more emotional and epic. They ended with their potent current single "The Real".
Up next was Everyday Sunday who have been around awhile but this was the first chance I've had to see them. They launched into their pop post punk thing ala Stellar Cart and Hawk Nelson. Unfortunately the lead singer was off key badly and seemed to have "front man disease". (Let me hear you scream! C'mon! Jump! Go crazy!) Between each song every member of the band was saying something in their mic at the same time. This is amateur hour. They should have been the opener. Now they are attempting a slow number...oh this is painful.

After a set change the lights went down and a gothic intro tape played. The boys in Seventh Day Slumber took the stage and proceeded to rip. For the first time tonight we've got metal. The sound is a little Creedish but heavier, with great harmonies and a commanding, tattooed front man. (Joseph) The third song was the powerful, massive ballad "Caroline". These guys are pros! Next was their new single "Missing Pages", a strong solid hit with the lyric "without Jesus there's no hope at all". Back to the riffage with "Awake" and the pummeling "Innocence". Then they pulled out a very old tune "Candy". Sweet. Joseph spoke about the opportunities he had from record companies to get the big bucks if he watered down the message. The band's response was "Break Me Down". This just keeps getting better and better. The final song was "Oceans From The Rain", with some Spanish thrown in, which turned into a praise and testimony time at the end. Joseph shared his life story and invited people to respond. It was one of the most creative ministry times I have witnessed. It was powerful, emotional and highly effective. The response was moving as people came down to have their lives changed. There was no follow up series of songs, there didn't need to be. The Holy Spirit was the encore.

Who is this Paul Q-Pek guy?
Wow -- is he critical or what?
I applaud HM the magazine for printing his words. It's cool when Christians can say what they really mean and not have to sugar coat everything. I'm sure there's a line somewhere that constructive becomes destructive, but it still is kind of refreshing to hear someone openly speak with honesty.
Interesting view. I've had a chance to hang out with the guys of Everyday Sunday and see them perform.
I'm not sure what was going on with them speaking in their mic at the same time, they did somewhat do the same thing at the show I worked at with them. Nonetheless, they were anything but amateur.
Hopefully, you will get a chance to see them again and be proven wrong.
"Now they are attempting a slow number...oh this is painful." Paul is mistaken, Oh it was absolutely amazing and beautiful.
These guys have been in the spotlight for the last 3-4 months on Christian Radio and I expect to see a whole lot bigger and better things from them.
Who is Paul Q-Pek? Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Bad_Pig
Hey Paul Q- Pek is the PHENOMINAL guitarist of the best Christian punk/thrash band ever.ONE BAD PIG.
These guys were getting it done before there was a christian punk scene.....15-20 years ago you would have been priviledged to see these guys tear it up.
Also they recorded a song with the world renown JOHNNY CASH on their record "I scream sunday"
One Bad Pig...Yeah \m/ have they disbanded???
Amusingly, I just found OBP's "I Scream Sunday" in a pawn shop. I haven't listened to it, but I did read the lyrics.
Oh wow.
The lyrics are TERRIBLE. Still, Johnny Cash cover/duet!
