Frasca at June 6, 2007 08:36 PMDear Doug , it's your brother Matthew again,Pt2 message , we have to know the spirit behind the music we play into our minds.Root word of fanatic= is fan. I used to listen to P.O.D. until a brother pointed out the spirit controling the band .Test each Spirit my brother, alot of the bands I thought were christain were lost on scripture and relationships that sold out to the music instead of CHRIST JESUS who always should come 1st . PEACE in Y'SHUA MESSIAH
Posted by: Matthew M Frasca at June 6, 2007 08:48 PMOkay, let's say you're right. Let's say that God has shown this minister you respect a divine revelation that rock music is bad and rejected by God as worship. That means God told me a lie ... or that I have been deceived and that I have no discernment. I'll ignore that so as not to respond out of "hurt feelings" or personal issues.
Posted by: Doug at June 7, 2007 08:34 AMAnd if you are right, then only certain kinds of music is pleasing to God. Somewhere behind this so-called "truth" should be an explanation of exactly what defines "unacceptable" music. The problem with this whole argument, is that it boils down to your brain, your decision, your choice, and your possible deception/bad choice. Each one of us has scripture verses that supposedly "back up" our argument; but you must realize that we are both 180 degrees and diametrically opposed to one another on this topic. One of us is right or partly right and one of us is wrong or partly wrong. The scripture passages that you might use are not clearly spelling out that rock music is unacceptable. Sorry, it doesn't. The only way you can apply a scripture or its principles is to interpret a verse to mean something that it probably wasn't intended to. The minister that says "God showed him" or "God told him," which is really the only defense/offense a minister can take into this argument, is just like a little, immature kid who has lost all logical ground to defend his argument and he reaches out in desperation for the only thing he can grab ahold of (and magically, no one else can argue with) and that is: "God told me so."
Now,
let's imagine that you are wrong about this argument. If you are wrong, and if God will gladly accept worship that is performed by an electric guitar (or what about the ex-Hindu from India that wants to reach his relatives with his sitar playing? or the ex-muslim convert who wants to reach his muslim family with weird-sounding but native-to-him atonal singing?), then you are sitting in false judgment and accusing fellow believers in Christ about something that you have no business to judge, harming their attitudes, hearts, and spirit. Paul the apostle called the "Judiazers" dogs. He didn't like people preaching a false message and harming the flock that he so cares to keep healthy, feeding them the purity of the Word. If you are wrong about this argument, you've got a lot of damage control and apologizing to do. If you are wrong, this is much worse than simply a case of you wasting your time, arguing about a petty topic. You are actually actively involved in dividing the body. This is serious stuff.
Maybe you should think about this from another perspective.
Posted by: Doug at June 7, 2007 08:50 AMGod gave us brains.
God's precepts and principles are logical.
Using your brain to understand His Word is NOT "relying on the flesh."
Guess what? An argument that sounds stupid and dumb ... quite possibly could be stupid and dumb. Do some of God's principles fly in the face of our fleshly desires (like "dying to self" and giving to others instead of taking?)? Of course, but His principles are balanced through the whole of Scripture.
If anyone ever tells you that an argument is based on "man's wisdom," they might be feeding you a manipulative lie that is attempting to get you to distance yourself and withdraw from the debate.
God's Word and principles are logical. They are wonderful. Some are challenging and difficult and have us debating over their true meaning, but God doesn't need to stretch into illogical fallacies to make a point. This guy from no ministries makes some incredibly crazy stretches to make his "points." He calls Bono a bi-sexual man. He leans on his own cultural understanding and tries to use that as the cross-cultural blueprint for God's kingdom. That's not smart.
