Doug: When I was going to interview you on Tuesday, my first question was about the impending war on Iraq. And now it’s not impending anymore. What are your views on the whole conflict?

Evan: Well, as a New Yorker and an American, I feel self-preservation is the only thing, really. For me, if given the choice between us and somebody else, then there’s no choice. I have to take care of my family and myself. I was in New York (when) our last album, Uncivilization, came out on September 11. I watched those buildings collapse and people that I knew inside of them... I can never again feel the same way about the world, about life, about peace, about equality. Peace is a (bleep) pipedream. And war sucks, because nobody ever really wins. But if the lesser of the evils is to... If Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden dying is gonna slow down that cause, whatever that religious fanaticism may be, of having them order attacks on civilians, then I’m all for it. Ya know?

D: Yeah.

E: I thank God Bush has some balls and is showing some (bleep) initiative. Thank God Al Gore is not our president. He’d be (bleep) peeing in his pants right now.

D: (laughs) I agree.

E: While his wife is banning my records...
